NURSING PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS<br />

Procedures for Applying<br />

Applications will be accepted twice yearly. Admission is subject<br />

to available openings. The Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) program<br />

is impacted and generally has a waiting list.<br />

Application deadlines are October 1 and March 1. All applicants<br />

must submit: 1) Application to the ADN program; 2) All required<br />

<strong>of</strong>ficial transcripts; and 3) Application to the <strong>College</strong> (new students<br />

only).<br />

November 1 and April 1 — Names <strong>of</strong> academically eligible<br />

students will be sent to the School <strong>of</strong> Nursing for processing.<br />

To be included in the November 1 applicant pool, all application<br />

materials must be submitted by October 1; to be included in the<br />

April 1 applicant pool, all application materials must be submitted<br />

by March 1.<br />

October 15 and March 15 — Accepted candidates will be notified.<br />

Qualifying Requirements<br />

1. One <strong>of</strong> the following must be completed before applying to the<br />

program:<br />

a. A minimum <strong>of</strong> 12 semester units <strong>of</strong> completed college<br />

coursework with an overall GPA <strong>of</strong> 2.5; or,<br />

b. Equivalent consistent with Board <strong>of</strong> Registered Nursing<br />

requirement (see nursing counselor for details).<br />

2. All <strong>of</strong> the following must be completed:<br />

a. All <strong>of</strong>ficial high school and college transcripts must be<br />

on file at <strong>Ventura</strong> <strong>College</strong> by October 1 or March 1 to be<br />

considered.<br />

b. Application to the Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) program<br />

must be on file with the counseling <strong>of</strong>fice at <strong>Ventura</strong> <strong>College</strong><br />

by October 1 or March 1 to be considered.<br />

c. An application to the <strong>College</strong> must also be filed for the<br />

appropriate semester.<br />

d. It is the applicant’s responsibility to check with the transcript<br />

clerk in the Office <strong>of</strong> Admissions and Records to see that<br />

his/her <strong>of</strong>ficial transcripts are on file at <strong>Ventura</strong> <strong>College</strong>.<br />

3. All <strong>of</strong> the following must be completed before applying to the<br />

program. <strong>Ventura</strong> <strong>College</strong> courses, listed with the comparable<br />

courses from Moorpark (MC) and Oxnard (OC) <strong>College</strong>s are:<br />

a. Anatomy: college anatomy with laboratory (4 semester units),<br />

with a minimum grade <strong>of</strong> C: ANAT V01 (ANAT M01–MC;<br />

ANAT R101 –OC).<br />

b. Chemistry - one year <strong>of</strong> high school or one semester <strong>of</strong><br />

college chemistry with laboratory, with minimum grades <strong>of</strong><br />

C: CHEM V01A-V01AL or CHEM V20-V20L or CHEM V30-<br />

V30L (CHEM M01A or M11 or M12 or M12H–MC; CHEM<br />

R104 or R110 or R120–OC).<br />

c. Math - completion <strong>of</strong> an intermediate algebra course, with<br />

a minimum grade <strong>of</strong> C: MATH V03 or MATH V03A-V03E<br />

or MATH V35 (MATH M03 or M03B or M04B–MC; MATH<br />

R014–OC).<br />

d. Microbiology - college bacteriology/microbiology with<br />

laboratory (4 semester units), with a minimum grade <strong>of</strong> C:<br />

MICR V01; (MICR M01–MC; MICR R100-R100L–OC).<br />

e. Physiology - college physiology with laboratory (4<br />

semester units), with a minimum grade <strong>of</strong> C: PHSO V01<br />

(PHSO M01–MC; PHSO R101–OC).<br />

f. GPA in the core biological sciences must be 2.5. This<br />

includes anatomy, microbiology, and physiology. There<br />

may be no more than one repeat or withdrawal in any <strong>of</strong><br />

the core biological science courses.<br />

g. CNA: current certification as a nursing assistant (CNA) in<br />

California or equivalent.<br />

h. Attainment <strong>of</strong> the “success score” on the state mandated<br />

diagnostic assessment test, the Test <strong>of</strong> Essential<br />

Academic Skills (TEAS).<br />

4. The following must be completed before entering the Nursing<br />

program:<br />

a. Growth and development across the lifespan: HEC V24 or<br />

PSY V05 (PSY M07–MC; CD R102 or PSY R108–OC).<br />

Students must be in good academic standing (not on academic<br />

probation) to be eligible for application to the nursing program at<br />

<strong>Ventura</strong> <strong>College</strong>. Additional courses required for those enrolled in<br />

the ADN program are listed below.<br />
