THA V10C - PRODUCTION AND PERFORMANCE III - 3 Units<br />
Hours: 6 lecture-laboratory weekly<br />
This course provides supervised practical experience in a leading<br />
acting role, as a stage manager, designer, director or production<br />
assistant in the preparation and performance <strong>of</strong> theatre productions.<br />
Field trips may be required. THA V10A & V10B & V10C may be<br />
taken in any combination for a maximum <strong>of</strong> 4 times. Formerly THA<br />

THA V12 - STUDENT ONE-ACT PLAY FESTIVAL - 2 Units<br />
Hours: 4 lecture-laboratory weekly<br />
Supervised theatre production <strong>of</strong> student directed, produced and/<br />
or written one-act plays. Each student will be part <strong>of</strong> a one-act<br />
production. Each team will cast, rehearse and produce a one-act play<br />
in a college sponsored production to be presented in the Circus and/<br />
or Main Campus Theatre.<br />
Field trips may be required. May be taken for a maximum <strong>of</strong> 4<br />
times. Formerly ThA 12.<br />
THA V14 - MOVEMENT FOR THE THEATRE - 1-1.5 Units<br />
Hours: .5-1 lecture, 1.5-2 laboratory weekly<br />
This course teaches the fundamentals <strong>of</strong> movement and dance<br />
techniques for students in the theatre and related arts. The course<br />
introduces theory and the practice <strong>of</strong> stage movement while<br />
developing the body as an expressive instrument. Flexibility,<br />
relaxation, control, and creative expression will be developed.<br />
Field trips may be required. THA V14 /DANC V14 may be taken in<br />
any combination for a maximum <strong>of</strong> 4 times. Formerly ThA 14. Same<br />

THA V20 - COSTUME DESIGN AND HISTORY - 3 Units<br />
Hours: 3 lecture weekly<br />
This course explores the many aspects <strong>of</strong> costume design,<br />
including the breakdown <strong>of</strong> a script, artistic rendering <strong>of</strong> the<br />
literature, development <strong>of</strong> themes and design concepts, research<br />
sources, examination <strong>of</strong> the social and economic mores that govern<br />
dress, and the history <strong>of</strong> dress. Students will analyze research, and<br />
design two plays to present to the class. The course will include<br />
film and theatre industry standards in the area <strong>of</strong> costume design.<br />
Students will apply skills learned in class through work on theatrical<br />
productions.<br />

THA V21 - THEATRE PRODUCTION LABORATORY - 1.5 Units<br />
Hours: 4.5 laboratory weekly<br />
Practical experience in scenery construction, lighting, props,<br />
sound, and costume construction for the stage through participation<br />
in theatrical productions.<br />
Field trips may be required. May be taken for a maximum <strong>of</strong> 4<br />

THA V22 - FUNDAMENTALS OF STAGE COSTUMING - 3 Units<br />
Hours: 6 lecture-laboratory weekly<br />
This course teaches basic skills in the construction, organization,<br />
and care <strong>of</strong> stage costumes and accessories. It includes an<br />
exploration <strong>of</strong> a variety <strong>of</strong> costume crafts and methods <strong>of</strong><br />
construction including fabric dying and modification, mask-making,<br />
corset-making, and hat-making.<br />
Fees will be required. Field trips may be required. May be taken for<br />
a maximum <strong>of</strong> 2 times. Formerly ThA 22. Transfer credit: CSU; UC.<br />
THA V23 - INTRODUCTION TO DRAMATIC<br />
LITERATURE - 3 Units<br />
Prerequisite: ENGL V01A<br />
Hours: 3 lecture weekly<br />
This course is a beginning study <strong>of</strong> dramatic theory. Plays from<br />
various time periods will be studied and analyzed as literary works<br />
in the historical context, traced through their production history,<br />
considered for their relevance and importance for today’s artists and<br />
audiences, and analyzed for their production possibilities. The course<br />
will emphasize critical reading, analysis and interpretation.<br />
Field trips may be required. Formerly ThA 23. Same as ENGL V23.<br />

THA V29 - HISTORY OF MOTION PICTURES - 3 Units<br />
Hours: 3 lecture weekly<br />
This course provides a historical and critical survey <strong>of</strong> motion<br />
pictures with an emphasis on the contributions <strong>of</strong> early and<br />
modern filmmakers to the filmmaking process. Lectures, illustrated<br />
by screened examples <strong>of</strong> films, examine filmmaking back to the<br />
nineteenth century.<br />

THA V30A - FUNDAMENTALS OF SCREENWRITING - 3 Units<br />
Recommended preparation: ENGL V01A<br />
Hours: 3 lecture weekly<br />
Examines the craft and business <strong>of</strong> screenwriting from all<br />
perspectives, including the creative process, structure, proper<br />
formatting, pitching, marketing, business and legal aspects. A series<br />
<strong>of</strong> in-class and out-<strong>of</strong>-class writing exercises culminates in students<br />
writing the opening sequence <strong>of</strong> a two-hour screenplay or a complete<br />
short-subject screenplay.<br />

THA V30B - INTERMEDIATE SCREENWRITING - 3 Units<br />
Prerequisite: THA V30A<br />
Hours: 3 lecture weekly<br />
Examines the craft and business <strong>of</strong> screenwriting from all<br />
perspectives, including the creative process, structure, proper<br />
formatting, pitching, marketing, business and legal aspects. Includes<br />
advanced analysis and applications <strong>of</strong> story structure through a<br />
series <strong>of</strong> in-class and out-<strong>of</strong>-class writing exercises and script<br />
analyses.<br />

THA V31 - ACTING FOR FILM AND TELEVISION - 3 Units<br />
Recommended preparation: THA V02A<br />
Hours: 2 lecture, 3 laboratory weekly<br />
This course will analyze the filmmaking and television production<br />
processes and the consequences that the technical and creative<br />
processes <strong>of</strong> the film media and television media have on the craft<br />
and business <strong>of</strong> film and television acting. The course will evolve<br />
through a series <strong>of</strong> practical scene-study exercises that duplicate the<br />
actual experience <strong>of</strong> acting for film and television.<br />
