Hours: lecture and/or laboratory as required by unit formula<br />

This course <strong>of</strong>fers specialized study opportunities for students<br />

who wish to pursue projects not included in the regular curriculum.<br />

Students are accepted only by a written project proposal approved by<br />

the discipline prior to enrollment.<br />

Field trips may be required. May be taken for a maximum <strong>of</strong> 4<br />

times not to exceed 6 units. Formerly Jour 90. Transfer credit: CSU;<br />

credit limitations - see counselor.<br />

JOUR V95 - JOURNALISM INTERNSHIP I - 1-4 Units<br />

Prerequisite: JOUR V05A<br />

Corequisite: enrolled in a minimum <strong>of</strong> 7 units to include internship<br />

Hours: 60 per unit<br />

This course <strong>of</strong>fers students who are volunteers (unpaid) an<br />

opportunity to obtain work experience related to their field <strong>of</strong> study.<br />

Students are accepted as a result <strong>of</strong> consultation with a designated<br />

faculty member in the discipline and the acceptance <strong>of</strong> an approved<br />

work proposal.<br />

Field trips will be required. May be taken for a maximum <strong>of</strong> 4<br />

times not to exceed 16 units total in combination with any other work<br />

experience/internship courses. Offered on a pass/no pass basis only.<br />

Transfer credit: CSU; credit limitations - see counselor.<br />

JOUR V96 - JOURNALISM INTERNSHIP II - 1-4 Units<br />

Prerequisite: JOUR V05A<br />

Corequisite: enrolled in a minimum <strong>of</strong> 7 units to include internship<br />

Hours: 75 per unit<br />

This course <strong>of</strong>fers students who are employed in the field an<br />

opportunity to expand their work experience related to their field<br />

<strong>of</strong> study. Students are accepted as a result <strong>of</strong> consultation with a<br />

designated faculty member in the discipline and the acceptance <strong>of</strong> an<br />

approved work proposal.<br />

Field trips will be required. May be taken for a maximum <strong>of</strong> 4<br />

times not to exceed 16 units total in combination with any other work<br />

experience/internship courses. Offered on a pass/no pass basis only.<br />

LEARNING SKILLS<br />

Learning Skills (LS) courses are designed<br />

for students with disabilities.<br />

LS V01 - ASSESSMENT OF LEARNING SKILLS - 3 Units<br />

Hours: 3 lecture weekly<br />

A course designed for assessment and tutoring <strong>of</strong> learningdisabled<br />

students by a specially trained staff. Utilization <strong>of</strong><br />

specialized techniques, materials, texts, and audio-visual equipment<br />

to teach or assess fundamental skills and to support academic<br />

instruction for students with special learning styles.<br />

Formerly LS 1. Not applicable for degree credit.<br />

LS V01L - ASSESSMENT OF LEARNING SKILLS<br />

LABORATORY - .5 Unit<br />

Hours: 1.5 laboratory weekly<br />

This course provides for the assessment <strong>of</strong> learning disabilities<br />

(upon referral by specially trained staff) for the purpose <strong>of</strong><br />

determining eligibility for services through <strong>Ventura</strong> <strong>College</strong>'s<br />

Educational Assistance Center (EAC). Students will be introduced<br />

to specialized techniques, materials, texts, and assistive technology<br />

to support academic success. <strong>Ventura</strong> <strong>College</strong> learning disability<br />

eligibility does not guarantee learning disability eligibility at other<br />

institutions.<br />

May be taken for a maximum <strong>of</strong> 4 times. Formerly LS 1L. Offered<br />

on a pass/no pass basis only. Not applicable for degree credit.<br />
