FILM V02 - FILM PRODUCTION - 3 Units<br />
Recommended preparation: FILM V01<br />
Hours: 6 lecture-laboratory weekly<br />
This course is an introduction to the film and video production<br />
process including scripting, story boarding, pre-production planning,<br />
budgeting, casting, shooting, lighting, sound, and editing in both<br />
studio and location settings. Students will write, produce, direct,<br />
and edit a personal project and participate in group assignments and<br />
projects.<br />
Field trips may be required. Transfer credit: CSU.<br />
FILM V03A - NON-LINEAR EDITING I - 3 Units<br />
Hours: 6 lecture-laboratory Weekly<br />
This course is an overview <strong>of</strong> desktop non-linear video editing,<br />
including acquiring digital video and combining and editing source<br />
material to create complete digital movies. Topics include: basic<br />
editing techniques; cuts and transitions; adding and altering audio;<br />
titling, keying and transparency; and, applying filters and effects.<br />
Field trips may be required. Transfer credit: CSU.<br />
FILM V03B - NON-LINEAR EDITING II - 3 Units<br />
Prerequisite: FILM V03A<br />
Hours: 6 lecture-laboratory weekly<br />
This course introduces advanced studies in concepts and<br />
techniques <strong>of</strong> desktop non-linear editing including both technical<br />
and aesthetic issues. Topics will include large-project management,<br />
creating edit decision lists (EDLs), and client-based editing.<br />
The collaborative aspect <strong>of</strong> editing and how editing fits into the<br />
production workflow will be emphasized. Current trends and styles in<br />
editing will be discussed.<br />

FILM V04 - DOCUMENTARY FILMMAKING - 3 Units<br />
Prerequisite: FILM V02<br />
Recommended preparation: FILM V01<br />
Hours: 6 lecture-laboratory weekly<br />
This course deals with advanced concepts and production skills<br />
specific to documentary filmmaking. Included are selected national<br />
and international documentary screenings and discussions, and<br />
practical exercises from conceptualization through post-production<br />
that culminate in the production <strong>of</strong> a short documentary.<br />
Field trips may be required. May be taken for a maximum <strong>of</strong> 2<br />
times. Transfer credit: CSU.<br />
FILM V05 - NARRATIVE FILMMAKING - 3 Units<br />
Prerequisite: FILM V02<br />
Recommended preparation: FILM V01<br />
Hours: 6 lecture-laboratory weekly<br />
This course introduces advanced concepts and production skills<br />
specific to narrative filmmaking, including scripting, story boarding,<br />
pre-production planning, budgeting, casting, shooting, lighting, sound<br />
and editing. Students write, produce, direct, and edit a personal<br />
narrative project and participate in a group narrative project. Current<br />
trends and styles in production are discussed.<br />
Field trips may be required. May be taken for a maximum <strong>of</strong> 2<br />

Hours: lecture and/or laboratory as required by unit formula<br />
Designed to meet specific needs <strong>of</strong> the college and community as<br />
required and/or requested by persons whose needs in this area are<br />
not met by present course <strong>of</strong>ferings.<br />

Hours: lecture and/or laboratory as required by unit formula<br />
This course <strong>of</strong>fers specialized study opportunities for students<br />
who wish to pursue projects not included in the regular curriculum.<br />
Students are accepted only by a written project proposal approved<br />
by the discipline prior to enrollment.<br />

FREN V01 - ELEMENTARY FRENCH I - 5 Units<br />
Hours: 5 lecture weekly<br />
This course provides training in communication, comprehension,<br />
pronunciation, elementary principles <strong>of</strong> grammar, reading <strong>of</strong><br />
prose, and simple composition. Progress in oral-aural skills will be<br />
emphasized throughout the course and supplemented by outside use<br />
<strong>of</strong> the language laboratory. Cultural material is given to stimulate<br />
interest in and develop an understanding and appreciation <strong>of</strong> the<br />
French-speaking peoples and countries.<br />

Review <strong>of</strong> French grammar: students are given the opportunity<br />
to increase their oral and written pr<strong>of</strong>iciency in the language and<br />
to read selections drawn from the works <strong>of</strong> well-known authors;<br />
the language laboratory will be used to reinforce and practice<br />
grammatical concepts and communicative functions.<br />

FREN V04 - INTERMEDIATE FRENCH II - 5 Units<br />
Prerequisite: FREN V03 or equivalent<br />
Hours: 5 lecture weekly<br />
Further study <strong>of</strong> grammatical principles with special emphasis on<br />
building communicative skills in French. Reading and discussion <strong>of</strong><br />
essays, periodicals, short stories, drama and poetry used to increase<br />
vocabulary, fluency and cultural understanding.<br />
