EAC V96 - SPECIAL EDUCATION INTERNSHIP II - 1-4 Units<br />
Corequisite: enrolled in a minimum <strong>of</strong> 7 units to include internship<br />
Recommended preparation: completion <strong>of</strong> or concurrent enrollment<br />
in one course in the discipline<br />
Hours: 75 per unit<br />
This course <strong>of</strong>fers students who are employed in the field an<br />
opportunity to expand their work experience related to their field<br />
<strong>of</strong> study. Students are accepted as a result <strong>of</strong> consultation with a<br />
designated faculty member in the discipline and the acceptance <strong>of</strong> an<br />
approved work proposal.<br />
Field trips will be required. May be taken for a maximum <strong>of</strong> 4<br />
times not to exceed 16 units total in combination with any other work<br />
experience/internship courses. Offered on a pass/no pass basis only.<br />
Transfer credit: CSU; credit limitations - see counselor.<br />
EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNOLOGY<br />
EMT V01 - EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN - 8 Units<br />
Prerequisite: criminal background clearance; drug and alcohol<br />
clearance; current CPR certification for health care provider or<br />
pr<strong>of</strong>essional rescuer; pro<strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong> freedom from and immunity to<br />
communicable diseases; physical examination demonstrating general<br />
good health; age 18 by midterm; no visible tattoos or visible body<br />
piercings except single studs in ear lobes; and no acrylic or long<br />
nails in clinical settings; students must be present on the first night<br />
<strong>of</strong> class.<br />
Recommended preparation: the California State Department <strong>of</strong><br />
Emergency Medical Services Authority through the <strong>Ventura</strong> County<br />
Emergency Medical Services Agency may deny certification to those<br />
with criminal records<br />
Hours: 8 lecture, .5 laboratory weekly<br />
This course covers the techniques <strong>of</strong> emergency medical care<br />
presently considered to be within the scope <strong>of</strong> practice <strong>of</strong> ambulance<br />
personnel and others engaged in the delivery <strong>of</strong> emergency services.<br />
The student participates in providing care to the emergency patient<br />
in both hospital and field settings under the direct supervision <strong>of</strong><br />
hospital and ambulance personnel. This course is approved by the<br />
California State Department <strong>of</strong> Emergency Medical Services. Upon<br />
successful completion <strong>of</strong> both the written and practical examinations<br />
with a grade <strong>of</strong> B or better, the student will be eligible to sit for<br />
the certifying examination administered by the National Registry<br />
<strong>of</strong> Emergency Medical Technicians. This course fulfills the health<br />
education requirement for an associate degree.<br />

EMT V10 - EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN<br />
RECERTIFICATION - 2 Units<br />
Prerequisite: valid EMT certificate; and current CPR certification for<br />
health care provider or pr<strong>of</strong>essional rescuer or equivalent<br />
Hours: 2 lecture weekly<br />
This course is designed to update the emergency medical<br />
technician and meet state requirements for recertification. The course<br />
reviews life-support measures and the use <strong>of</strong><br />
emergency equipment and supplies.<br />
Field trips may be required.<br />
