COURSE DESCRIPTIONS<br />
MM V10 - INTRODUCTION TO MULTIMEDIA AND MULTIMEDIA<br />
APPLICATIONS - 3 Units<br />
Recommended preparation: basic English and math skills; and<br />
computer fundamentals<br />
Hours: 6 lecture-laboratory weekly<br />
This course is designed for students who wish to pursue a career<br />
in multimedia or are interested in utilizing multimedia tools in their<br />
current pr<strong>of</strong>ession. The course is an overview <strong>of</strong> the multimedia<br />
industry including commercial, artistic, and technical aspects <strong>of</strong><br />
development and production including their philosophical and cultural<br />
implications. Subjects covered include defining multimedia, history <strong>of</strong><br />
multimedia, multimedia hardware/s<strong>of</strong>tware, multimedia applications,<br />
occupational opportunities, composition <strong>of</strong> development teams,<br />
critical evaluation <strong>of</strong> multimedia, and the future <strong>of</strong> multimedia.<br />

MM V20 - VISUAL DESIGN FOR MULTIMEDIA - 3 Units<br />
Recommended preparation: MM V10 or equivalent; basic English and<br />
math skills; and computer fundamentals<br />
Hours: 6 lecture-laboratory weekly<br />
This course is an introduction to the visual elements and<br />
principles <strong>of</strong> design, and their application to multimedia. Using the<br />
computer and traditional media, students will work with line, shape/<br />
form, value, space, light, volume, perspective, texture/pattern, scale/<br />
proportion, typographical design, and color in a series <strong>of</strong> progressive<br />
projects designed to develop the aesthetic sensitivity and basic<br />
technical knowledge required to create effective multimedia images.<br />

MM V22 - ADVANCED VISUAL DESIGN FOR<br />
MULTIMEDIA - 3 Units<br />
Prerequisite: MM V20<br />
Hours: 6 lecture-laboratory weekly<br />
This course is an advanced study <strong>of</strong> the visual elements and<br />
principles <strong>of</strong> design and their application to multimedia. Using<br />
the computer, students will work with digital imagery, animation,<br />
digital video, audio, typographical design, and color in an intensive<br />
study program designed to develop both the technical knowledge<br />
required to create effective multimedia images as well as a thorough<br />
understanding <strong>of</strong> the resources and opportunities available in the field<br />
<strong>of</strong> multimedia.<br />

MM V26 - DIGITAL PUBLISHING: APPLICATIONS AND<br />
IMPLICATIONS - 3 Units<br />
Recommended preparation: MM V74A<br />
Hours: 6 lecture-laboratory weekly<br />
The student will learn and discuss current issues related to the<br />
widening use <strong>of</strong> electronic media as a supplement to, or substitute<br />
for, paper-based print. These issues include access rights,<br />
preservation, standards, and copyright, among others. This course<br />
also provides a look at some proposals, prototypes, and processes<br />
in electronic information distribution. Using page layout, graphics<br />
illustration, PDF creation and image manipulation s<strong>of</strong>tware, students<br />
will learn to create a wide range <strong>of</strong> artifacts such as effective<br />
directories, Web pages, surveys, direct mail initiatives, information<br />
packages, fax documents, and many other electronic media.<br />

MM V30 - MULTIMEDIA DESIGN AND PRODUCTION - 3 Units<br />
Recommended preparation: MM V10 or MM V20 or equivalent; basic<br />
English and math skills; and computer fundamentals<br />
Hours: 6 lecture-laboratory weekly<br />
This course is an introduction to the planning and production,<br />
both individually and collaboratively, <strong>of</strong> multimedia products such as<br />
a website, CD-ROMs, kiosks, consumer titles, sales and marketing<br />
tools, presentations, courseware, or computer based training (CBT).<br />
Students design their projects–from conception to distribution–while<br />
working as a team on teacher-guided, real-world projects. Students<br />
will integrate various media into interactive design projects using<br />
instructional design, authoring, image processing, and video editing<br />
s<strong>of</strong>tware. Rapid prototypes are created.<br />

MM V32 - INTERMEDIATE MULTIMEDIA DESIGN AND<br />
PRODUCTION - 3 Units<br />
Prerequisite: MM V30<br />
Recommended preparation: knowledge <strong>of</strong> programming<br />
Hours: 6 lecture-laboratory weekly<br />
This course is designed for the student who is interested in an<br />
in-depth development <strong>of</strong> full-scale multimedia customized training<br />
tools for the personal computer which may be deployed via multiple<br />
modalities such as interactive CD, kiosks, Internet, Intranet, LAN<br />
or WAN. Using the skills acquired in the introductory course,<br />
students will create original content and integrate various media into<br />
interactive design projects using instructional design, authoring,<br />
image processing, and video editing s<strong>of</strong>tware. This course includes<br />
creating custom objects using an open scripting language and<br />
producing associated documentation/instructions for an application,<br />
while working in a collaborative environment.<br />

MM V40 - VIDEO PRODUCTION AND EDITING FOR<br />
MULTIMEDIA - 3 Units<br />
Recommended preparation: MM V10 or MM V20 or equivalent; basic<br />
English and math skills; and computer fundamentals<br />
Hours: 6 lecture-laboratory weekly<br />
This course introduces students to all aspects and phases<br />
<strong>of</strong> digital video production and editing including scripting,<br />
storyboarding, visual design and composition, camera work, lighting,<br />
digital editing techniques, and business considerations (budgeting,<br />
finance, distribution, and marketing) <strong>of</strong> video production for the<br />
multimedia industry. The projects that students create in this course<br />
can be integrated into other multimedia formats such as CD-ROM<br />
and Web design.<br />

MM V44 - ADVANCED DIGITAL VIDEO EDITING AND<br />
PRODUCTION FOR MULTIMEDIA - 3 Units<br />

This course introduces students to advanced aspects and<br />
phases <strong>of</strong> digital video production and editing including scripting,<br />
