PE V69 - FOOTBALL - 1-1.5 Units<br />

Hours: .5-1 lecture, 1.5-2 laboratory weekly<br />

This course introduces the theory and practice <strong>of</strong> football. There<br />

will be an emphasis on skill development through the study, practice<br />

and evaluation <strong>of</strong> techniques. Topics will also include mechanics,<br />

drills, video analysis, and a review <strong>of</strong> the rules <strong>of</strong> football.<br />

May be taken for a maximum <strong>of</strong> 4 times. Formerly PE 69. Transfer<br />

PE V70 - BASKETBALL - 1-2 Units<br />

Hours: .5-1 lecture, 1.5-3 laboratory weekly<br />

This course introduces the fundamentals <strong>of</strong> basketball, including<br />

the techniques, rules, and skills. Students will transfer the skills <strong>of</strong><br />

basketball to a game-playing situation. Emphasis will be placed on<br />

shooting, passing, dribbling, and game strategies.<br />

May be taken for a maximum <strong>of</strong> 4 times. Formerly PE 70. Transfer<br />

PE V71 - BASEBALL - 1-1.5 Units<br />

Hours: .5-1 lecture, 1.5-2 laboratory weekly<br />

This course is designed to teach the fundamental skills <strong>of</strong> baseball<br />

including throwing, pitching, catching, running, defense, and hitting.<br />

Emphasis will be placed on the mental aspects <strong>of</strong> the game, as well<br />

as the NCAA rules governing baseball.<br />

May be taken for a maximum <strong>of</strong> 4 times. Formerly PE 71. Transfer<br />

PE V73 - MIND/BODY FLEXIBILITY AND<br />

MOVEMENT - 1-1.5 Units<br />

Hours: .5-1 lecture, 1.5-2 laboratory weekly<br />

This is a technique-oriented movement course that recognizes<br />

and develops the connection <strong>of</strong> the mind, body, and spirit. It<br />

integrates multiple movement techniques along with a foundational<br />

understanding <strong>of</strong> how emotional, psychological and physical<br />

states affect wellness. Movements are inspired by Feldenkrais and<br />

Alexander techniques, Hatha and flow Yoga, Pilates, and ballet.<br />

Students will develop increased flexibility, mind-body awareness, and<br />

an improvement in overall wellness.<br />

PE V74 - POWER BODY BUILDING FOR INTERCOLLEGIATE<br />

ATHLETES - 1-1.5 Units<br />

Recommended preparation: participation in the <strong>Ventura</strong> <strong>College</strong><br />

Intercollegiate athletic program<br />

Hours: .5-1 lecture, 1.5-2 laboratory weekly<br />

This is a weight training and conditioning course designed for<br />

students who are members <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Ventura</strong> <strong>College</strong> Intercollegiate<br />

athletic program. Students will build strength, power, and bulk<br />

necessary for athletic competition. Exercise will center on the<br />

development <strong>of</strong> upper body strength, rehabilitation and strengthening<br />

<strong>of</strong> knee joints, and training <strong>of</strong> the lower body. Emphasis will be<br />

placed on power lifting. The conditioning phase will focus on the<br />

development <strong>of</strong> agility, quickness, coordination, balance, and speed<br />

through the implementation <strong>of</strong> competitive drills and routines.<br />

May be taken for a maximum <strong>of</strong> 4 times. Formerly PE V42.<br />

PE V75 - CONDITIONING: CIRCUIT TRAINING FOR<br />

INTERCOLLEGIATE ATHLETES - 1-1.5 Units<br />

Recommended preparation: participation in the <strong>Ventura</strong> <strong>College</strong><br />

Intercollegiate athletic program<br />

Hours: .5-1 lecture, 1.5-2 laboratory weekly<br />

This circuit training course is designed for students who are<br />

members <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Ventura</strong> <strong>College</strong> Intercollegiate athletic program.<br />

Students move from exercise station to station, completing the<br />

circuit in a specific amount <strong>of</strong> time. A variety <strong>of</strong> circuits are used<br />

throughout the semester to meet various fitness goals. Lecture topics<br />

will include strength development, flexibility maintainance, body<br />

composition, weight loss, diet/cholesterol, heart disease risk factors,<br />

and other parameters <strong>of</strong> fitness.<br />

May be taken for a maximum <strong>of</strong> 4 times. Formerly PE V40.<br />

PE V100 - PERSONAL FITNESS TRAINING<br />

CERTIFICATION - 3 Units<br />

Hours: 2 lecture, 3 laboratory weekly<br />

This course is designed to furnish the student with the knowledge,<br />

skills, and abilities to prepare to become a Certified Personal Trainer.<br />

Students will study how the muscular, skeletal, and cardiorespiratory<br />

systems function. Topics include anatomy and physiology, principles<br />

and methods <strong>of</strong> cardiovascular training, strength training, safety,<br />

nutrition, and weight management.<br />

Field trips may be required. Transfer credit: CSU; limitations - see<br />

counselor.<br />

PE V101 - EXERCISE PRESCRIPTION FOR THE PERSONAL<br />

TRAINER - 2 Units<br />

Prerequisite: PE V100<br />

Hours: 2 lecture weekly<br />

This course is designed to increase the understanding and<br />

application <strong>of</strong> exercise prescription as a mode <strong>of</strong> disease prevention<br />

and treatment, and as a means <strong>of</strong> achieving high levels <strong>of</strong> physical<br />

fitness. Topics will include: risk stratification, advanced principles<br />

<strong>of</strong> conditioning, exercise prescription for healthy populations and<br />

special populations, behavior modification, leadership, and starting a<br />

fitness business.<br />

INTERCOLLEGIATE ATHLETICS<br />

PE V76 - INTERCOLLEGIATE BASEBALL - 1-3 Units<br />

Hours: .5-1 lecture, 2.5-9 laboratory weekly<br />

This course introduces theory and practice <strong>of</strong> baseball. It is<br />

designed to provide training for competition in intercollegiate<br />

baseball.<br />

Field trips may be required. May be taken for a maximum <strong>of</strong> 4<br />

PE V78 - INTERCOLLEGIATE BASKETBALL: MEN - 1-3 Units<br />

Hours: .5-1 lecture, 2.5-9 laboratory weekly<br />

This course introduces theory and practice <strong>of</strong> basketball.<br />

The course is designed to provide training for competition in<br />

intercollegiate men’s basketball.<br />

Field trips may be required. May be taken for a maximum <strong>of</strong> 4<br />
