GERM V02 - ELEMENTARY GERMAN II - 5 Units<br />
Prerequisite: GERM V01 or 2 years <strong>of</strong> high school German or<br />
equivalent<br />
Hours: 5 lecture weekly<br />
This course provides continued training in developing<br />
communication, comprehension, pronunciation skills in German<br />
language through the study <strong>of</strong> elementary principles <strong>of</strong> grammar.<br />
Reading <strong>of</strong> prose, and simple composition are further developed.<br />
Progress in developing oral-aural skills is emphasized throughout the<br />
course and supplemented by outside use <strong>of</strong> the language laboratory.<br />
Cultural material is provided to stimulate interest in and develop an<br />
understanding and appreciation <strong>of</strong> the German-speaking peoples and<br />
countries.<br />

GERM V03 - INTERMEDIATE GERMAN I - 5 Units<br />
Prerequisite: GERM V02 or 3 years <strong>of</strong> high school German or<br />
equivalent<br />
Hours: 5 lecture weekly<br />
This course provides an intensive review <strong>of</strong> grammar and an<br />
introduction to new applications <strong>of</strong> grammar principles. Selections<br />
from original German literature are read and discussed to provide<br />
practice in improving fluency in communication.<br />

GERM V04 - INTERMEDIATE GERMAN II - 5 Units<br />
Prerequisite: GERM V03 or equivalent<br />
Hours: 5 lecture weekly<br />
This course provides further study <strong>of</strong> grammatical principles,<br />
with special emphasis on building communicative skills in German.<br />
Reading and discussion <strong>of</strong> essays, periodicals, short stories, drama<br />
and poetry will be used to increase vocabulary, fluency and cultural<br />
understanding.<br />

GERM V51A - SITUATIONAL CONVERSATION IN<br />
GERMAN I - 3 Units<br />
Prerequisite: GERM V01 or 2 years <strong>of</strong> high school German or<br />
equivalent<br />
Hours: 3 lecture weekly<br />
This course is designed to give the student with some knowledge<br />
<strong>of</strong> German further opportunity to practice the language through<br />
conversation, discussion groups, role-playing, and other activities in<br />
German. The course will be conducted entirely in German.<br />

GERM V51B - SITUATIONAL CONVERSATION IN<br />
GERMAN II - 3 Units<br />
Prerequisite: GERM V02 or GERM V51A or 3 years <strong>of</strong> high school<br />
German or equivalent<br />
Hours: 3 lecture weekly<br />
This course is designed to give the intermediate-level student <strong>of</strong><br />
German additional oral practice in the language through conversation,<br />
discussion groups, role-playing, and other activities in German. The<br />
course will be conducted entirely in German.<br />

GERM V51C - SITUATIONAL CONVERSATION IN<br />
GERMAN III - 3 Units<br />
Prerequisite: GERM V03 or GERM V51B or equivalent<br />
Hours: 3 lecture weekly<br />
This course is designed to give the advanced-level student<br />
<strong>of</strong> German further opportunity to practice the language through<br />
conversation, discussion groups, debates, role-playing, and other<br />
activities in German. The course will be conducted entirely in<br />
German.<br />

GERM V80 - CONVERSATIONAL GERMAN - 3 Units<br />
Hours: 3 lecture weekly<br />
This is an entry-level course in oral communication in German<br />
that develops novice-level pr<strong>of</strong>iciencies in listening, comprehension,<br />
oral expression, and vocabulary acquisition. Students imitate native<br />
pronunciation and intonation <strong>of</strong> German words and phrases through<br />
choral repetition, role playing, guided practice, responding in German<br />
to questions and commands, initiating conversations, conducting<br />
interviews in German, and by carrying out other communicative tasks<br />
used to facilitate language acquisition. Students develop the ability<br />
to use German to conduct friendly conversations, gain information,<br />
and to discuss preferences, daily activities, and other basic<br />
conversational topics.<br />
GERM V88 - GERMAN WORKSHOPS - .5-10 Units<br />
Prerequisite: varies with topic<br />
Hours: lecture and/or laboratory as required by unit formula<br />
Designed to meet specific needs <strong>of</strong> the college and community as<br />
required and/or requested by persons whose needs in this area are<br />
not met by present course <strong>of</strong>ferings.<br />

This course <strong>of</strong>fers specialized study opportunities for students<br />
who wish to pursue projects not included in the regular curriculum.<br />
Students are accepted only by a written project proposal approved by<br />
the discipline prior to enrollment.<br />

GUIDANCE WORKSHOPS<br />
GW V01A - DISCOVERING THE RIGHT CAREER - 1 Unit<br />
Hours: 1 lecture weekly<br />
This course focuses on becoming aware <strong>of</strong> one’s interests, skills,<br />
and abilities through testing and other means <strong>of</strong> self-analysis. The<br />
student will study the job market and employment trends. Various<br />
resources will be explored. The course will teach decision making<br />
skills to assist the student in making appropriate career choices.<br />
Formerly GW 1A. Offered on a pass/no pass basis only. Transfer<br />
