Student’s Right-to-Know Campus Security and<br />

Crime Awareness<br />

<strong>Ventura</strong> <strong>College</strong> endorses and supports Public Law 101-542, the<br />

Student-Right-to-Know and Campus Security Act, as amended by<br />

Public Law 102-26. The <strong>College</strong> will make available, upon request,<br />

to any interested individual, information on policies regarding the<br />

use <strong>of</strong> the campus facilities, the reporting <strong>of</strong> criminal actions and/<br />

or emergencies which have occurred on campus.<br />

Any individual interested in requesting this information may<br />

inquire at the Campus Police Office or visit the VCCCD Police<br />

website: vcccd.edu/police/index.htm. The entire text <strong>of</strong> this Act<br />

is available upon request from the Executive Vice President in the<br />

Administration Building.<br />

The security <strong>of</strong> all members <strong>of</strong> the campus community is <strong>of</strong> vital<br />

concern to <strong>Ventura</strong> <strong>College</strong>. Anyone who is a witness or victim <strong>of</strong> a<br />

crime needs to make a report to Campus Police (805-654-6486).<br />

It is requested that anyone aware <strong>of</strong> an unsafe condition (burned<br />

out light bulb, etc.) should contact the Office <strong>of</strong> Business Services<br />

(805-654-6354). <strong>Ventura</strong> <strong>College</strong> appreciates everyone’s help in<br />

keeping the campus safe and secure.<br />

Crime Awareness<br />

The Crime Awareness and Campus Security Act <strong>of</strong> 1990 requires<br />

institutions to report data for certain criminal acts that occur on<br />

campus. The <strong>Ventura</strong> County Community <strong>College</strong> District’s Campus<br />

Police Office reported the following crimes on the <strong>Ventura</strong> <strong>College</strong><br />

Campus for the reporting period <strong>of</strong> January 1, 2009 to December<br />

31, 2009.<br />

APPENDIX XV<br />

Smoking Regulations<br />

In the interest <strong>of</strong> the health and welfare <strong>of</strong> students, employees,<br />

and the public, smoking is prohibited in all college buildings,<br />

college owned vehicles, indoor and outdoor facilities, interior bus<br />

stops, designated campus entrances and all open areas. Smoking<br />

is permitted only in main campus parking lots (N, E, S, W, and<br />

SW lots) and designated areas in other lots ( A, M&O and ICPD<br />

lots).<br />

All smoking materials including cigarettes, cigars, pipes, and<br />

other apparatus used to smoke organic and non-organic materials<br />

must be extinguished and/or properly disposed <strong>of</strong> in the designated<br />

receptacles located in the parking lots before entering the campus.<br />

Enforcement:<br />

• First-time <strong>of</strong>fenders will be informed <strong>of</strong> the new regulation.<br />

• Repeat <strong>of</strong>fenders who are students will be referred to the<br />

Assistant Dean <strong>of</strong> Student Services.<br />

• Repeat <strong>of</strong>fenders who are employees will be referred to the<br />

Dean <strong>of</strong> their division.<br />

• Violators may be subject to disciplinary action in accordance<br />

with the appropriate policy.<br />

Smoking Cessation Support:<br />

Smoking cessation counseling and patches are available for<br />

no charge at the Student Health Center through a grant from the<br />

<strong>Ventura</strong> County Public Health Department.<br />
