MATH V89 - WORKSHOPS IN MATHEMATICS - .5-10 Units<br />

Designed to meet specific needs <strong>of</strong> the college and community as<br />
required and/or requested by persons whose needs in this area are<br />
not met by present course <strong>of</strong>ferings.<br />
Fees may be required. <strong>Courses</strong> with same title may not be<br />
repeated; may be taken for a maximum <strong>of</strong> 4 times. Formerly Math<br />
89. Transfer credit: CSU; for UC, determined after admission.<br />
MATH V90 - DIRECTED STUDIES IN<br />
MATHEMATICS - 1-6 Units<br />
Prerequisite: varies with topic<br />
Hours: lecture and/or laboratory as required by unit formula<br />
This course <strong>of</strong>fers specialized study opportunities for students<br />
who wish to pursue projects not included in the regular curriculum.<br />
Students are accepted only by a written project proposal approved by<br />
the discipline prior to enrollment.<br />
Field trips may be required. May be taken for a maximum <strong>of</strong> 4<br />
times not to exceed 6 units. Formerly Math 90. Transfer credit: CSU;<br />
for UC, determined after admission.<br />
MICROBIOLOGY<br />
MICR V01 - GENERAL MICROBIOLOGY - 4 Units<br />
Prerequisite: BIOL V04 or PHSO V01 or equivalent with grades <strong>of</strong> C<br />
or better; and CHEM V01A-V01AL or CHEM V20-V20L or CHEM V30-<br />
V30L or 1 year <strong>of</strong> high school chemistry with grades <strong>of</strong> C or better<br />
Recommended preparation: BIOL V01-V01L and CHEM V21-V21L<br />
and ENGL V01A<br />
Hours: 3 lecture, 3 laboratory weekly<br />
This course includes lecture and laboratory studies concerning<br />
microbes: bacteria, fungi, protists, animals and viruses, with an<br />
emphasis on bacterial morphology, anatomy, staining, classification,<br />
metabolism, growth and the effects <strong>of</strong> physical and chemical agents<br />
on bacteria. The course includes study <strong>of</strong> microorganisms affecting<br />
humans, principles <strong>of</strong> disease transmission, disease prevention,<br />
immunity, and biotechnology. Required safety items include: lab<br />
coat, gloves and ANSI 287.1 safety glasses.<br />
Field trips may be required. Formerly Micro 1. Transfer credit:<br />
CSU; UC.<br />
