COURSE DESCRIPTIONS<br />

THA V01 - THEATRE ARTS APPRECIATION - 3 Units<br />

Hours: 3 lecture weekly<br />

Appreciation and understanding <strong>of</strong> the arts <strong>of</strong> the theatre. This<br />

course examines the relationship that exists between theatre and<br />

society throughout history, the elements <strong>of</strong> dramatic structure,<br />

and the nature <strong>of</strong> theatrical presentation including the performance<br />

process creative artists use to express the world <strong>of</strong> the play.<br />

Field trips may be required. Formerly ThA 1. Transfer credit: CSU;<br />

UC.<br />

THA V02A - FUNDAMENTALS OF ACTING - 3 Units<br />

Hours: 2 lecture, 3 laboratory weekly<br />

This course examines the fundamentals <strong>of</strong> modern acting for<br />

the stage. The course provides practical experience in the skills <strong>of</strong><br />

physical movement, voice, characterization, script analysis, and<br />

audition technique, as well as rehearsal and performance.<br />

Field trips may be required. Formerly ThA 2A. Transfer credit:<br />

THA V02B - ADVANCED ACTING - 3 Units<br />

Prerequisite: THA V02A<br />

Hours: 2 lecture, 3 laboratory weekly<br />

This course is an in-depth application <strong>of</strong> the techniques explored<br />

in fundamentals <strong>of</strong> acting with emphasis on characterization and<br />

scene study.<br />

Field trips may be required. Formerly ThA 2B. Transfer credit:<br />

CSU; UC.<br />

THA V05 - STAGECRAFT - 3 Units<br />

Hours: 6 lecture-laboratory weekly<br />

This course introduces the theory and practice <strong>of</strong> design and<br />

construction <strong>of</strong> stage scenery; and familiarization with the tools and<br />

materials employed by the stage designer, stage carpenter, costume<br />

designer, sound engineer, and lighting technician. Students will have<br />

the opportunity to apply design and construction principles in drama<br />

department productions.<br />

Field trips may be required. May be taken for a maximum <strong>of</strong> 4<br />

times. Formerly ThA 5. Transfer credit: CSU; UC.<br />

THA V06 - STAGE MAKE-UP - 3 Units<br />

Hours: 6 lecture-laboratory weekly<br />

This course includes theory, demonstration and practice in<br />

applying make-up for theatre, film and television. It incorporates<br />

familiarization with make-up supplies, materials and techniques and<br />

includes practice in design and application <strong>of</strong> character make-up for<br />

theatre productions.<br />

Field trips will be required. May be taken for a maximum <strong>of</strong> 2<br />

times. Formerly ThA 6. Transfer credit: CSU; UC.<br />

THA V10A - PRODUCTION AND PERFORMANCE I - 1 Unit<br />

Hours: 2 lecture-laboratory weekly<br />

This course provides supervised practical experience in a <strong>Ventura</strong><br />

<strong>College</strong> theatre production in a minor role as an actor or house<br />

manager.<br />

Field trips may be required. THA V10A & V10B & V10C may be<br />

taken in any combination for a maximum <strong>of</strong> 4 times. Transfer credit:<br />

CSU; UC.<br />

THA V10B - PRODUCTION AND PERFORMANCE II - 2 Units<br />

Hours: 4 lecture-laboratory weekly<br />

This course provides supervised practical experience in a<br />

supporting acting role or as a crew member in the preparation and<br />

performance <strong>of</strong> theatre productions.<br />

Field trips may be required. THA V10A & V10B & V10C may be<br />

taken in any combination for a maximum <strong>of</strong> 4 times. Transfer credit:<br />

CSU; UC.<br />
