PSY V30 - MULTICULTURAL PSYCHOLOGY - 3 Units<br />

Hours: 3 lecture weekly<br />

This course focuses on multicultural issues and their influence<br />

on individual and group behavior. It explores how traditions and<br />

social customs shape the development <strong>of</strong> the individual’s behavior,<br />

cognition, motivation, emotion, gender roles, personality, and<br />

moral judgments across the lifespan. It examines how family,<br />

work, religion, language, artistic expression, rituals, and clothing<br />

function as symbols <strong>of</strong> cultural identity. Cross-cultural comparisons<br />

<strong>of</strong> various psychological phenomena are reviewed, documenting<br />

similarities and differences in human behavior across cultures in<br />

an attempt to search for mediators <strong>of</strong> these differences. Topics <strong>of</strong><br />

discussion include diversity in an increasingly pluralistic society and<br />

intercultural relations among African Americans, Hispanics, Asian<br />

Americans, Native Americans and other cultural groups, with the<br />

option <strong>of</strong> focusing on a particular culture in any given semester.<br />

PSY V31 - INTRODUCTION TO SOCIAL PSYCHOLOGY - 3 Units<br />

Hours: 3 lecture weekly<br />

This course is concerned with the scientific study <strong>of</strong> social<br />

psychology and related theories. The course focuses on how the<br />

individual affects and is affected by other people in society, and<br />

how society influences human behavior as well as the individual’s<br />

psychological process (i.e. attitudes, beliefs, self-concept).<br />

Field trips may be required. Formerly Psych 31. Same as SOC<br />

PSY V88 - PSYCHOLOGY WORKSHOPS - .5-10 Units<br />

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS<br />

RE V01 - REAL ESTATE PRINCIPLES - 3 Units<br />

Hours: 3 lecture weekly<br />

This is a practical study <strong>of</strong> the economic aspects and the<br />

fundamental laws and principles <strong>of</strong> real estate, designed to acquaint<br />

the student with the basic premises needed for a real estate license<br />

or for better management <strong>of</strong> the student’s personal investments.<br />

Field trips may be required. Formerly RE 1. Transfer credit: CSU.<br />

RE V02 - REAL ESTATE PROPERTY MANAGEMENT - 3 Units<br />

Hours: 3 lecture weekly<br />

This is a basic course in the management <strong>of</strong> income properties.<br />

Topics will include: specific types <strong>of</strong> properties that are managed;<br />

the major problems <strong>of</strong> leasing, collections, rent schedules, tenant<br />

selection, neighborhood analysis, purchasing, evictions, preventive<br />

maintenance, depreciation, record keeping, and economics <strong>of</strong><br />

property; and, practical procedures for use in property management.<br />

Field trips may be required.<br />

RE V03 - REAL ESTATE ECONOMICS - 3 Units<br />

Hours: 3 lecture weekly<br />

This course is an economic history <strong>of</strong> contemporary real estate<br />

and chronicles the events and economic trends influencing real<br />

estate values (appraisal). It <strong>of</strong>fers an analysis <strong>of</strong> the interrelationship<br />

between the cost and value <strong>of</strong> real estate on a local and national<br />

level. This course is designed to meet the requirements for the<br />

appraisal subject matter electives <strong>of</strong> the Appraisal Qualifications<br />

Board <strong>of</strong> the Appraisal Foundation and to fulfill the statutory prelicensing<br />

requirements <strong>of</strong> the California Department <strong>of</strong> Real Estate for<br />

salespersons and brokers.<br />

RE V05 - REAL ESTATE PRACTICES - 3 Units<br />

Hours: 3 lecture weekly<br />

This course presents the techniques <strong>of</strong> operating a real estate<br />

business with emphasis on the daily activities <strong>of</strong> brokers and<br />

salespeople. The course stresses securing and qualifying prospects<br />

by obtaining listings, and legal factors in real estate transactions.<br />

Field trips may be required.<br />

RE V11 - REAL ESTATE APPRAISAL - 3 Units<br />

Hours: 3 lecture weekly<br />

This course in real estate appraisal is confined largely to<br />

residential property, along with an introduction to investment property<br />

valuation. Additionally, the course covers methods and techniques<br />

for determining value for loan and insurance purposes. Students will<br />

prepare a standard appraisal report as used in industry on a selected<br />

residential property.<br />
