FREN V51A - SITUATIONAL CONVERSATION IN<br />

FRENCH I - 3 Units<br />

Prerequisite: FREN V01 or 2 years <strong>of</strong> high school French or<br />

equivalent<br />

Hours: 3 lecture weekly<br />

This course is designed to give the student with some knowledge<br />

<strong>of</strong> French further opportunity to practice the language through<br />

conversation, discussion groups, role-playing, and other activities in<br />

French. The course will be conducted entirely in French.<br />

Field trips may be required. Formerly Fr 51A. Transfer credit: CSU.<br />

FREN V51B - SITUATIONAL CONVERSATION IN<br />

FRENCH II - 3 Units<br />

Prerequisite: FREN V02 or FREN V51A or 3 years <strong>of</strong> high school<br />

French or equivalent<br />

Hours: 3 lecture weekly<br />

This course is designed to give the intermediate-level student <strong>of</strong><br />

French additional oral practice in the language through conversation,<br />

discussion groups, role-playing, and other activities in French. The<br />

course will be conducted entirely in French.<br />

Field trips may be required. Formerly Fr 51B. Transfer credit: CSU.<br />

FREN V51C - SITUATIONAL CONVERSATION IN<br />

FRENCH III - 3 Units<br />

Prerequisite: FREN V03 or FREN V51B or equivalent<br />

Hours: 3 lecture weekly<br />

This course is designed to give the advanced-level student<br />

<strong>of</strong> French further opportunity to practice the language through<br />

conversation, discussion groups, debates, role-playing, and other<br />

activities in French. The course will be conducted entirely in French.<br />

Field trips may be required. Formerly Fr 51C. Transfer credit: CSU.<br />

FREN V80 - CONVERSATIONAL FRENCH - 3 Units<br />

Hours: 3 lecture weekly<br />

This is an entry-level course in oral communication in French<br />

that develops novice-level pr<strong>of</strong>iciencies in listening comprehension,<br />

oral expression, and vocabulary acquisition. Students imitate native<br />

pronunciation and intonation <strong>of</strong> French words and phrases through<br />

choral repetition, role playing, guided practice, responding in French<br />

to questions and commands, initiating conversations, conducting<br />

interviews in French, and by carrying out other communicative tasks<br />

used to facilitate language acquisition. Students develop the ability<br />

to use French to conduct friendly conversations, gain information,<br />

and to discuss preferences, daily activities, and other basic<br />

conversational topics.<br />

FREN V88 - FRENCH WORKSHOPS - .5-10 Units<br />

Prerequisite: varies with topic<br />

Hours: lecture and/or laboratory as required by unit formula<br />

Designed to meet specific needs <strong>of</strong> the college and community as<br />

required and/or requested by persons whose needs in this area are<br />

not met by present course <strong>of</strong>ferings.<br />

Fees may be required. <strong>Courses</strong> with same title may not be<br />

repeated; may be taken for a maximum <strong>of</strong> 4 times.<br />

FREN V89 - WORKSHOPS IN FRENCH - .5-10 Units<br />

Prerequisite: varies with topic<br />

Hours: lecture and/or laboratory as required by unit formula<br />

Designed to meet the specific needs <strong>of</strong> the college and community<br />

as required and/or requested by persons whose needs in this area<br />

are not met by present course <strong>of</strong>ferings.<br />

FREN V90 - DIRECTED STUDIES IN FRENCH - 1-6 Units<br />

Prerequisite: varies with topic<br />

Hours: lecture and/or laboratory as required by unit formula<br />

This course <strong>of</strong>fers specialized study opportunities for students<br />

who wish to pursue projects not included in the regular curriculum.<br />

Students are accepted only by a written project proposal approved by<br />

the discipline prior to enrollment.<br />

Field trips may be required. May be taken for a maximum <strong>of</strong> 4<br />

times not to exceed 6 units. Formerly Fr 90. Transfer credit: CSU; for<br />

UC, determined after admission.<br />
