PHOT V06B - INTRODUCTION TO COLOR<br />
PHOTOGRAPHY II - 3 Units<br />
Prerequisite: PHOT V06A<br />
Hours: 6 lecture-laboratory weekly<br />
This course provides continuing instruction and experience in<br />
color photography and color laboratory techniques. Emphasis will<br />
be placed on the artistic merit <strong>of</strong> color photography and portfolio<br />
development.<br />

PHOT V07 - HISTORY OF PHOTOGRAPHY - 3 Units<br />
Hours: 3 lecture weekly<br />
This course is a survey <strong>of</strong> the history <strong>of</strong> photography from<br />
1839 to the present. Emphasis <strong>of</strong> the survey will be placed on<br />
the 20th century to understand how the forces <strong>of</strong> photography’s<br />
historical context, technological innovation, and creative spirit have<br />
worked together to create a body <strong>of</strong> photographic images that have<br />
pr<strong>of</strong>oundly influenced our culture and our sense <strong>of</strong> ourselves.<br />

PHOT V08 - PRINCIPLES OF PORTRAIT<br />
PHOTOGRAPHY - 3 Units<br />
Prerequisite: PHOT V04A or equivalent<br />
Recommended preparation: PHOT V01<br />
Hours: 6 lecture-laboratory weekly<br />
This course is an introduction to formal and informal studio<br />
portraiture—black and white and color. Students will be introduced<br />
to advanced studio techniques, lighting, posing and composition.<br />
The course is designed for students, as well as pr<strong>of</strong>essionals<br />
working in the field.<br />

PHOT V09A - APPLIED PHOTOGRAPHY I - 3 Units<br />
Prerequisite: PHOT V04A<br />
Recommended preparation: PHOT V06A and PHOT V08<br />
Hours: 6 lecture-laboratory weekly<br />
This course is designed for the pr<strong>of</strong>essional photographer who<br />
wants to refine conceptual and interpretive photographic skills. It<br />
will provide continued study <strong>of</strong> portraiture and illustration in the<br />
commercial field. Topics will also include: the artist statement;<br />
packaging; pricing; marketing; presentation; contemporary media;<br />
and, career opportunities.<br />

PHOT V09B - APPLIED PHOTOGRAPHY II - 3 Units<br />
Prerequisite: PHOT V09A<br />
Hours: 6 lecture-laboratory weekly<br />
Students will plan, shoot, develop and print a body <strong>of</strong> work that<br />
is both conceptually motivated and technically pr<strong>of</strong>icient. Emphasis<br />
will be on developing both traditional and electronic portfolios, and<br />
accessing local, national and worldwide delivery systems.<br />

PHOT V30 - PRESS PHOTOGRAPHY PRACTICUM - 1.5 Units<br />
Prerequisite: PHOT V01 or previous practical experience<br />
Hours: 3 lecture-laboratory weekly<br />
This course is a survey <strong>of</strong> the principles <strong>of</strong> photojournalism.<br />
Students will learn the skills necessary to provide photographs for<br />
a newspaper or other publications. The course stresses learning<br />
through practical experience.<br />
Field trips may be required. PHOTO V30/JOUR V30 may be taken<br />
in any combination for a maximum <strong>of</strong> 4 times. Same as JOUR V30.<br />
PHOT V73 - DIGITAL IMAGING - 3 Units<br />
Prerequisite: ART V11A and ART V12A<br />
Recommended preparation: MM V74A or equivalent skills; and<br />
computer fundamentals<br />
Hours: 6 lecture-laboratory weekly<br />
This course is a creative exploration <strong>of</strong> digital image editing.<br />
Using their own photographs, and image editing s<strong>of</strong>tware such as<br />
Adobe Photoshop, students engage in color and value correction,<br />
special effects, and creative cropping. This course emphasizes digital<br />
image problem solving with attention given to successful artistic<br />
composition. Students learn to scan, manipulate and enhance digital<br />
images for graphic and fine art reproduction.<br />

V73 may be taken in any combination for a maximum <strong>of</strong> 2 times.<br />

who wish to pursue projects not included in the regular curriculum.<br />
Students are accepted only by a written project proposal approved by<br />
the discipline prior to enrollment.<br />
