PE V56 - TENNIS: BEGINNING - 1-1.5 Units<br />
Hours: .5-1 lecture, 1.5-2 laboratory weekly<br />
This course teaches the basic skills <strong>of</strong> tennis including basic<br />
strategy, rules, etiquette, and techniques <strong>of</strong> playing tennis and<br />
introduces tennis grips, forehand, backhand, serve, volley, lob, and<br />
scoring.<br />
Field trips may be required. PE V56, V57 & V58 may be taken in<br />
any combination for a maximum <strong>of</strong> 4 times. Formerly PE 56. Transfer<br />

PE V57 - TENNIS: INTERMEDIATE - 1-1.5 Units<br />
Prerequisite: PE V56 or equivalent skills<br />
Hours: .5-1 lecture, 1.5-2 laboratory weekly<br />
This course will provide an introduction to the intermediate<br />
techniques <strong>of</strong> tennis. Special emphasis will be placed on the<br />
improvement <strong>of</strong> serves, volleys, ground strokes, overheads, and<br />
lobs, including advanced strategies <strong>of</strong> singles and doubles.<br />
Field trips may be required. PE V56, V57 & V58 may be taken in<br />
any combination for a maximum <strong>of</strong> 4 times. Formerly PE 57. Transfer<br />

PE V58 - TENNIS: ADVANCED - 1-1.5 Units<br />
Prerequisite: PE V57 or equivalent skills<br />

This course introduces the advanced techniques and theory <strong>of</strong><br />
playing tennis including strategy <strong>of</strong> tournament playing.<br />
Field trips may be required. PE V56, V57 & V58 may be taken in<br />

PE V59 - TRACK AND FIELD - 1-1.5 Units<br />
Hours: .5-1 lecture, 1.5-2 laboratory weekly<br />
This course provides instruction in and practice <strong>of</strong> the events<br />
in track and field. Topics include techniques, strategies, fitness<br />
conditioning, and rules pertaining to all aspects and events <strong>of</strong> track<br />
and field.<br />

PE V60 - YOGA FUNDAMENTALS - 1-1.5 Units<br />
Hours: .5-1 lecture, 1.5-2 laboratory weekly<br />
This course introduces yoga techniques for the beginning student<br />
while challenging students familiar with yoga with more advanced<br />
skills. Yoga means “union.” This course will emphasize the<br />
integration and harmonization <strong>of</strong> the mind, body and spirit through<br />
Hatha Yoga. Hatha Yoga is a form that emphasizes asanas (postures)<br />
and incorporates pranayama (breath control). Students will improve<br />
physical strength and muscular endurance, increase circulation, and<br />
improve flexibility and balance. They will also learn to quiet the mind,<br />
improve concentration and focus, and reduce stress.<br />

PE V61 - VOLLEYBALL: BEGINNING - 1-1.5 Units<br />
Hours: .5-1 lecture, 1.5-2 laboratory weekly<br />
This course introduces the basic skills <strong>of</strong> volleyball including<br />
strategy, rules, individual skills, and techniques <strong>of</strong> playing volleyball.<br />
PE V61, V62, & V63 may be taken in any combination for a<br />

PE V62 - VOLLEYBALL: INTERMEDIATE - 1-1.5 Units<br />
Recommended preparation: PE V61 or equivalent skills<br />

Students will be introduced to intermediate techniques <strong>of</strong><br />
volleyball, including the overhand serve, blocking, digging, and<br />
power spiking. Continuing development <strong>of</strong> proper technique is<br />
emphasized.<br />
PE V61, V62, & V63 may be taken in any combination for a<br />

PE V63 - VOLLEYBALL: ADVANCED - 1-1.5 Units<br />
Recommended preparation: PE V62 or equivalent skills<br />
Hours: .5-1 lecture, 1.5-2 laboratory weekly<br />
This course introduces advanced techniques and strategies <strong>of</strong><br />
power volleyball. Students will prepare for intercollegiate volleyball<br />
competition and highly competitive tournament play. All phases <strong>of</strong><br />
<strong>of</strong>fensive and defensive strategies and rules <strong>of</strong> the game will be<br />
studied and practiced.<br />
PE V61, V62, & V63 may be taken in any combination for a<br />

PE V64 - SOFTBALL - 1-1.5 Units<br />
Hours: .5-1 lecture, 1.5-2 laboratory weekly<br />
This course introduces the fundamentals <strong>of</strong> s<strong>of</strong>tball with an<br />
emphasis on skills, techniques, rules and strategy. Competitive<br />
experience will be <strong>of</strong>fered through class competition.<br />
May be taken for a maximum <strong>of</strong> 4 times. Formerly PE 64. Transfer<br />

PE V66 - BASIC TAI CHI - 1-1.5 Units<br />
Hours: 2-3 lecture-laboratory weekly<br />
This course introduces Tai Chi movement for the beginning<br />
as well as the more advanced student. Emphasis will be placed<br />
on the integration and harmonization <strong>of</strong> the mind, body and spirit<br />
through chi. Students will be introduced to a traditional Tai Chi style<br />
and will learn basic Tai Chi skills including breathing techniques,<br />
mindfulness, focus, postures, forms and sequences. Students will<br />
increase circulation and improve flexibility, postural alignment,<br />
balance and concentration while conserving energy, preventing injury<br />
and reducing stress.<br />

PE V67 - SOCCER - 1-1.5 Units<br />
Hours: .5-1 lecture, 1.5-2 laboratory weekly<br />
This course is designed to help students develop skills to<br />
play soccer. Topics include the history <strong>of</strong> soccer, rules, safety,<br />
techniques, and strategy.<br />

PE V68 - DANCE PERFORMANCE FOR ATHLETIC<br />
EVENTS - 2 Units<br />
Hours: 4 lecture-laboratory weekly<br />
This is a course designed to provide an opportunity to develop<br />
and practice the skills necessary for public performance at sporting<br />
events. There will be an emphasis on the skill development <strong>of</strong> stunts,<br />
footwork, dance choreography, cheer and group performance. This<br />
course requires public performances.<br />
Field trips will be required. May be taken for a maximum <strong>of</strong> 4<br />
