INTERNSHIP<br />

INTR V95 - INTERNSHIP I - 1-4 Units<br />

Corequisite: enrolled in a minimum <strong>of</strong> 7 units to include internship<br />

Recommended preparation: completion <strong>of</strong> or concurrent enrollment in<br />

one course in the discipline<br />

Hours: 60 per unit<br />

This course <strong>of</strong>fers students who are volunteers (unpaid) an<br />

opportunity to obtain work experience related to their field <strong>of</strong> study.<br />

Students are accepted as a result <strong>of</strong> consultation with a designated<br />

faculty member in the discipline and the acceptance <strong>of</strong> an approved<br />

work proposal.<br />

Field trips will be required. May be taken for a maximum <strong>of</strong> 4<br />

times not to exceed 16 units total in combination with any other work<br />

experience/internship courses. Formerly NTRN V95. Offered on a<br />

pass/no pass basis only. Transfer credit: CSU; credit limitations - see<br />

counselor.<br />

INTR V96 - INTERNSHIP II - 1-4 Units<br />

Corequisite: enrolled in a minimum <strong>of</strong> 7 units to include internship<br />

Hours: 75 per unit<br />

This course <strong>of</strong>fers students who are employed in the field an<br />

opportunity to expand their work experience related to their field<br />

<strong>of</strong> study. Students are accepted as a result <strong>of</strong> consultation with a<br />

designated faculty member in the discipline and the acceptance <strong>of</strong> an<br />

ITALIAN<br />

Intermediate Italian (ITAL V03, V04) not <strong>of</strong>fered 2010-<strong>2011</strong><br />

ITAL V01 - ELEMENTARY ITALIAN I - 5 Units<br />

Hours: 5 lecture weekly<br />

This is an introductory course designed to provide the student with<br />

basic communication skills in Italian. Emphasis will be on listening,<br />

speaking, reading, and writing Italian. Basic grammatical principles<br />

and proper Italian pronunciation will be covered. The history<br />

and culture <strong>of</strong> the Italian people will be discussed. The language<br />

laboratory will be used to supplement classroom instruction.<br />

Field trips may be required. Formerly Ital 1. Transfer credit: CSU;<br />

UC.<br />

ITAL V02 - ELEMENTARY ITALIAN II - 5 Units<br />

Prerequisite: ITAL V01 or 2 years <strong>of</strong> high school Italian<br />

Hours: 5 lecture weekly<br />

This is the second course in the introductory sequence <strong>of</strong> Italian<br />

language study. Students will expand vocabulary and mastery <strong>of</strong><br />

grammatical concepts as they acquire greater listening, speaking,<br />

reading, and writing skills in Italian. The language laboratory will be<br />

used to supplement classroom instruction. Students will use more<br />

complex grammatical constructions and a wider range <strong>of</strong> idiomatic<br />

expressions. Further study <strong>of</strong> Italian history, culture and current<br />

events will be included in order to develop comprehension and<br />

speaking skills.<br />

Field trips may be required. Formerly Ital 2. Transfer credit: CSU;<br />

UC.<br />

ITAL V03 - INTERMEDIATE ITALIAN I - 4 Units<br />

Prerequisite: ITAL V02 or 3 years <strong>of</strong> high school Italian or equivalent<br />

Hours: 4 lecture weekly<br />

This course is an intensive review <strong>of</strong> Italian grammar and syntax.<br />

Topics will include: introduction to new applications <strong>of</strong> grammar<br />

principles; practice in oral and written expression; reading and<br />

discussion <strong>of</strong> selections from original Italian literature to provide<br />

practice in improving fluency in communication; and, the use <strong>of</strong> the<br />

language laboratory to practice and reinforce grammatical concepts<br />

and communicative functions.<br />

ITAL V04 - INTERMEDIATE ITALIAN II - 4 Units<br />

Prerequisite: ITAL V03 or equivalent<br />

Hours: 4 lecture weekly<br />

This course includes further study <strong>of</strong> grammatical principles with<br />

special emphasis on building communicative skills in Italian. Students<br />

will read and discuss essays, periodicals, short stories, drama and<br />

poetry to increase vocabulary, fluency and cultural understanding.<br />

Field trips may be required. Transfer credit: CSU; UC.<br />

ITAL V51A - SITUATIONAL CONVERSATION IN<br />

ITALIAN I - 3 Units<br />

Prerequisite: ITAL V01 or 2 years <strong>of</strong> high school Italian or equivalent<br />

Hours: 3 lecture weekly<br />

This course is designed to give the student with some knowledge<br />

<strong>of</strong> Italian further opportunity to practice the language through<br />

conversation, discussion groups, role-playing, and other activities in<br />

Italian. The course will be conducted entirely in Italian.<br />

Field trips may be required. Formerly Ital 51A. Transfer credit: CSU.<br />
