WEL V14B - TIG AND FLUX CORE WELDING II - 4 Units<br />

Recommended preparation: WEL V14A or equivalent<br />

Hours 8 lecture-laboratory weekly<br />

This is part II <strong>of</strong> a course in TIG and Flux Core welding. This course<br />

<strong>of</strong>fers theory and intermediate vocational skills in Tungsten Inert Gas/<br />

Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (TIG/GTAW) and Flux Core Arc Welding<br />

(FCAW) processes. Students will develop skill in welding methodology,<br />

project layout, industrial safety and related technical mathematics.<br />

Students can prepare for industry certification testing. Students<br />

receiving credit in WEL V14B will not receive credit in WEL V04.<br />

Fees will be required. Formerly Wel 14B.<br />

WEL V20 - ADVANCED WELDING APPLICATIONS - 4 Units<br />

Recommended preparation: WEL V04 or WEL V14B or equivalent<br />

Hours: 8 lecture-laboratory weekly<br />

This course <strong>of</strong>fers theory and advanced vocational skill in<br />

industrial welding applications. Students will learn advanced<br />

metallurgy as it relates to aluminum, sheet-steel, plate and pipe<br />

welding. Students will also learn about aircraft and ship-building<br />

welding fabrication processes and manufacturing safety hazards.<br />

This course allows additional practice and preparation for industrial<br />

certification exams and employment preparation.<br />

Fees will be required.<br />

WEL V27 - METAL ART SCULPTURE - 3 Units<br />

Prerequisite: ART V19 and WEL V01<br />

Hours: 6 lecture-laboratory weekly<br />

This course is an introduction to metal art sculpture utilizing<br />

practical theory and application <strong>of</strong> materials, welding techniques and<br />

processes. It includes designing, metal cutting, forming techniques<br />

and texturing.<br />

Fees will be required. Field trips may be required. WEL V27/ART<br />

V27 may be taken in any combination for a maximum <strong>of</strong> 2 times.<br />

Same as ART V27.<br />

WEL V30 - APPLIED METAL FABRICATION - 2 Units<br />

Recommended preparation: WEL V01 or equivalent skills<br />

Hours: 4 lecture-laboratory weekly<br />

This course is designed to introduce the student to applied<br />

metal fabrication techniques, including measuring, cutting, forming,<br />

shaping, fitting, shrinking, stretching, and finishing. A variety <strong>of</strong><br />

metal forming equipment will be introduced. Fabricated projects will<br />

include custom metal forming for automotive, manufacturing, and/or<br />

industrial applications. MIG, TIG and Arc welding techniques will be<br />

applied. The students will have an opportunity to work on group as<br />

well as individual projects.<br />

Fees will be required. Field trips may be required. May be taken for<br />

a maximum <strong>of</strong> 2 times.<br />

WEL V65 - STRUCTURAL STEEL AND WELDING<br />

CONSTRUCTION - 3 Units<br />

Hours: 3 lecture weekly<br />

This course is a study <strong>of</strong> structural steel and welding use in<br />

building construction. Building types, grades <strong>of</strong> materials, assembly<br />

methods, blueprint reading, and other subjects will be studied.<br />

The course is intended for inspectors, project supervisors, and<br />

construction workers. The course will also help prepare students for<br />

related industry certification.<br />

Formerly Wel 65. Same as CT V65.<br />

WEL V66 - STRUCTURAL STEEL BLUEPRINT READING - 3 Units<br />

Recommended preparation: ARCH V11 or CT V20 or DRFT V02B or<br />

equivalent<br />

Hours: 3 lecture weekly<br />

This course will cover reading and interpretation <strong>of</strong> blueprints<br />

for steel fabrication and structural steel construction. Welding and<br />

bolting <strong>of</strong> connections, general notes, codes and symbols will<br />

be discussed. This course is designed for contractors, welders,<br />

inspectors and system installers involved with the construction <strong>of</strong><br />

large-scale commercial and industrial buildings.<br />

WEL V88 - WELDING WORKSHOPS - .5-10 Units<br />

Prerequisite: varies with topic<br />

Hours: lecture and/or laboratory as required by unit formula<br />

Designed to meet specific needs <strong>of</strong> the college and community as<br />

required and/or requested by persons whose needs in this area are<br />

not met by present course <strong>of</strong>ferings.<br />

Fees may be required. <strong>Courses</strong> with same title may not be<br />

repeated; may be taken for a maximum <strong>of</strong> 4 times. Formerly WEL<br />

V89.<br />

WEL V95 - WELDING INTERNSHIP I - 1-4 Units<br />

Corequisite: enrolled in a minimum <strong>of</strong> 7 units to include internship<br />

Recommended preparation: completion <strong>of</strong> or concurrent enrollment<br />

in one course in the discipline<br />

Hours: 60 per unit<br />

This course <strong>of</strong>fers students who are volunteers (unpaid) an<br />

opportunity to obtain work experience related to their field <strong>of</strong> study.<br />

Students are accepted as a result <strong>of</strong> consultation with a designated<br />

faculty member in the discipline and the acceptance <strong>of</strong> an approved<br />

work proposal.<br />

Field trips will be required. May be taken for a maximum <strong>of</strong> 4<br />

times not to exceed 16 units total in combination with any other work<br />

experience/internship courses. Offered on a pass/no pass basis only.<br />

WEL V96 - WELDING INTERNSHIP II - 1-4 Units<br />

Corequisite: enrolled in a minimum <strong>of</strong> 7 units to include internship<br />

Recommended preparation: completion <strong>of</strong> or concurrent enrollment<br />

in one course in the discipline<br />

Hours: 75 per unit<br />

This course <strong>of</strong>fers students who are employed in the field an<br />

opportunity to expand their work experience related to their field<br />

<strong>of</strong> study. Students are accepted as a result <strong>of</strong> consultation with a<br />

designated faculty member in the discipline and the acceptance <strong>of</strong> an<br />

approved work proposal.<br />

Field trips will be required. May be taken for a maximum <strong>of</strong> 4<br />

times not to exceed 16 units total in combination with any other work<br />

experience/internship courses. Offered on a pass/no pass basis only.<br />
