Sustainable farmming may include several measures m for pprotecting natural resources. One O measure, that of no-tillage, relates to t reduced sooil erosion. Th his may have fa avourable effects on soil agggregation and protection ffrom soil crus sting and soil er rosion. In a noo-tillage systemm, the residue es are concenttrated on the surface s of the so oil, which enhaances aggregatte stability and protects the sooil from erosion n. It is left to t grow during winter w to improvve water infiltraation into the so oil and to help prevent soil erosion. e Owing to o its high sensitivity to droughht, Oxalis tends s to reach wiltinng point in late e spring due to la ack of water inn the upper sooil layer. Disc-p ploughing oncee every four to o five years is ne ecessary to destroy the perennial vegeta ation and incorporate fertilizers and plant re esidues into the soil. This prractice is comm mon locally and was establis shed 30 years ag go by the collaaboration of nattional specialis sts and land ussers. It has bee en applied in a va ariety of naturral and humann environmenta al conditions tyypical of the Mediterranean M Location: Kisssamos provin re egion.
