maintaining the comfort level for all <strong>of</strong> the<br />
inhabitants. And apart <strong>of</strong> it is because the people<br />
who operate the systems and the control systems<br />
don't know how to do it. And I'm real interested in<br />
what you've done to improve that capability,<br />
particularly in developing countries, where you are<br />
trying to use local personnel.<br />
MR. LANGFITT: It's extremely challenging.<br />
We're in many cases putting in equipment that these<br />
people have never even seen. You know, the biggest<br />
equipment they've seen is something the size <strong>of</strong> what<br />
you would put on your house. So for us to say here<br />
is a new chiller that could cool 300 houses, they're<br />
going oh my goodness what is this?<br />
The building automation systems, we are<br />
trying to simplify the interface so that the<br />
facility staff that has been challenged to maintain<br />
it can operate it properly. The thermostats have a<br />
limited range <strong>of</strong> adjustability in most cases, so<br />
that you in your <strong>of</strong>fice can adjust it up or down two<br />
or three degrees, but they won't let you run it all<br />
the way down, which might starve the <strong>of</strong>fice next<br />
door.<br />
So we're trying to implement pieces that<br />
work together, so that it's less liable to go belly<br />
