sine numero, [s.n.]: sometimes used in citing lists of specimens after a<br />

collector’s name to indicate the absence of a collector’s number<br />

sine typo: without a type.<br />

single cross: see F1 hybrid.<br />

sister clade: (phyl.) one member of a pair of clades originating when a<br />

single lineage splits into two; sister clades thus share an exclusive<br />

common ancestry and are mutually most closely related to one<br />

another in terms of common ancestry.<br />

sociation: (phyt., obsol.) an hierarchical rank of a syntaxon, equivant to<br />

facies but not covered by the Code.<br />

socion: (phyt., obsol.) an hierarchical rank of a syntaxon, equivant to<br />
