coordinate name: (bio., zool.) a family group, genus group, or species<br />

group name; names within the groups have equal status; see<br />

coordinate status: (zool.) of names subject to the Principle of Coordination<br />

(q.v.).<br />

copulotype: (zool., unoff.) a pair of type specimens locked permanently in<br />

a copulatory embrace (!).<br />

copyist’s error: an incorrect spelling made in copying.<br />

corr.: see correctus, correxit.<br />

correct name: (1) (bot., prok., cult. pl.) the name of a taxon with a<br />

particular circumscription, position and rank that must be adopted in<br />

accordance with the Code. (2) (zool.) the valid name (q.v.). (3)<br />

(phyt.) the legitimate name (if necessary corrected according to the<br />

Code) that must be adopted for a syntaxon with a particular<br />

circumscription, position and rank under its rules. (4) (bio.) an<br />

accepted name (q.v.).<br />

correct original spelling: (zool.) the spelling of an available name when it<br />

is established, unless it is demonstrably incorrect under the Code.<br />

correction: the act of correcting the spelling of a name from the form in<br />

which it was originally published; (bot.) permitted only through<br />

conservation or when the original spelling was a typographic or<br />

orthographic error; see correctus, emendation.<br />

correctus, [-a, -um, corr.]: corrected (by). (1) (bot.) used to indicate a<br />

corrected orthography, i.e. one replaced by another considered more<br />

correct etymologically or more suitable; “corr.” following the<br />

authority and preceding the name of the author who first effected the<br />

correction. (2) (zool.) “justified emendation”; see emendation,<br />

justified.<br />

correxit, [corr.]: he corrected; see correctus.<br />

corrig.: see corrigendum.<br />

corrigendum, [corrig.]: (1) a note published by an author, editor, or<br />

publisher of a work, expressly to list one or more errors in that work
