family group: (1) (bio.) the ranks of superfamily, family, and subfamily.<br />

(2) (zool.) taxa at the ranks of superfamily, family, subfamily, tribe,<br />

and any other rank below superfamily and above the genus group<br />

that may be required, such as subtribe.<br />

family group name: (zool.) a scientific name of any taxon of the family<br />

group (q.v.), and the highest ranking group of taxa whose names are<br />

fully regulated by the Code.<br />
