comprehensive fitness evaluation. Each exercise program is<br />
individually prescribed. Students will receive work capacity tests.<br />
This is an activity course. Students may apply no more than 4 credits<br />
of activity courses toward their degree requirements. There is no<br />
restriction on the number of 3-credit physical education courses that<br />
can be used to fulfill elective requirements.<br />
PED 109 Water Aerobics and Basic Survival Skills<br />
2 hours, 1 credit<br />
Introduction to aquatics in the safe low-impact medium of chest-deep<br />
water. Emphasis is on utilizing the water’s resistance and buoyancy<br />
to promote cardiovascular conditioning, body toning, muscular<br />
strength, endurance and breathing. Use of state-of-the-art aquatic<br />
equipment such as Wet Vest (for deep water jogging) and Aqua Step<br />
Fins is included.<br />
This is an activity course. Students may apply no more than 4 credits<br />
of activity courses toward their degree requirements. There is no<br />

PED 110 Contemporary Health Problems<br />
3 hours, 3 credits<br />
The course will explore research on critical health issues dealing with<br />
mental health, substance addiction and dependence, nutrition, human<br />
sexuality, infectious and non-infectious diseases and their<br />
relationship to morbidity and longevity.<br />
PED 111 Aquatics I: Beginner Swimming<br />
2 hours, 1 credit<br />
Introduction to the fundamental swimming skills of floating, gliding<br />
and front crawl with instruction in basic water skills, safety and land<br />
rescue. Progression to more advanced skills such as treading water<br />
and standing front dive. Award of appropriate National Red Cross<br />
Aquatics Certificate level on completion of all skills requirements.<br />
This is an activity course. Students may apply no more than 4 credits<br />
of activity courses toward their degree requirements. There is no<br />
restriction on the number of 3-credit physical education courses that<br />

PED 112 Aquatics II: Intermediate Swimming<br />
2 hours, 1 credit<br />
Designed for students who have the fundamental swimming skills<br />
and are able to swim in deep water. Emphasis on form and ease in<br />
swimming and on perfecting the front crawl, breaststroke, sidestroke,<br />
back crawl and standing front dive with instruction in basic water<br />
skills, safety and land rescue. Award of appropriate National Red<br />
Cross Aquatics Certificate level on completion of all skills<br />
requirements. This is an activity course. Students may apply no more<br />
than 4 credits of activity courses toward their degree requirements.<br />

PED 114 Aquatics III: Advanced Swimming<br />
2 hours, 1 credit<br />
Designed for competent swimmers capable of swimming the crawl,<br />
backstroke and breaststroke. Review of basic water skills, safety and<br />
land rescue. Training principles and interval workouts. Stretching,<br />
weight training and nutrition applicable to fitness, masters, and triathletes.<br />
Individualized video analysis of swimming skills. Award of<br />
appropriate National Red Cross Aquatics Certificate level on<br />
completion of all skills requirements. This is an activity course.<br />
