TITLE IX<br />

In accordance with the requirements of Title IX of the Education<br />

Amendments of 1972 and the implementing federal regulations, <strong>John</strong><br />

<strong>Jay</strong> <strong>College</strong> firmly supports a policy of non-discrimination on the<br />

basis of sex in the operation of its educational programs and<br />

activities. Federal requirements for non-discrimination on the basis of<br />

sex include the <strong>College</strong>’s personnel practices, as well as admission to<br />

the programs and activities offered at the <strong>College</strong>. Ms. Silvia<br />

Montalban serves as the Affirmative Action <strong>Of</strong>ficer and Title IX<br />

Coordinator. Under the direction of the President, she has<br />

responsibility for the monitoring of Title IX regulations and their<br />

100. Legislative Declaration. It is essential to the maintenance<br />

of a democratic society that the public business be performed in an<br />

open and public manner and that the citizens of this state be fully<br />

aware of and able to observe the performance of public officials and<br />

attend and listen to the deliberations and decisions that go into the<br />

making of public policy. The people must be able to remain informed<br />

if they are to retain control over those who are their public servants. It<br />

is the only climate under which the commonwealth will prosper and<br />

enable the governmental process to operate for the benefit of those<br />

who created it.<br />
