awareness, relations with other organizations and security’s place in<br />
the corporate structure.<br />
Prerequisite: Eligibility to enroll in ENG 101<br />
SEC 210 Methods of Security<br />
3 hours, 3 credits<br />
Methods and techniques used to prevent and reduce losses due to<br />
theft and casualty. Consideration of the security survey;<br />
communication and surveillance systems; control of personnel and<br />
visitors; the use, supervision, and training of security forces; handling<br />
civil disturbances in public buildings; and other emergencies.<br />
Prerequisites: ENG 101, sophomore standing or above, and SEC 101<br />
SEC 211 Security Management<br />
3 hours, 3 credits<br />
The organization of the security function and its administration will<br />
be emphasized. Selection, education, training, seminars and<br />
workshops for security personnel will be examined including<br />
techniques for gaining acceptance for new security programs.<br />
Contracting or leasing vs. direct supervision and outright purchase of<br />
security services and equipment will be compared. Problems in<br />
allocation, communications, assignment and span of control will be<br />
presented.<br />
Prerequisites: ENG 101 and SEC 101<br />
SEC 270 Security of Computers and Their Data<br />
(Same course as MAT 270)<br />
3 hours, 3 credits<br />
Methods that have been used in the past to steal with the aid of the<br />
computer will be examined. Case studies will be used. Methods of<br />
detecting computer fraud and physically protecting the computer and<br />
EDP systems will be stressed.<br />
Prerequisites: ENG 101 and one introductory course in computing or<br />
the equivalent<br />
SEC 310 Emergency Planning<br />
3 hours, 3 credits<br />
This course provides a survey of the management issues posed by<br />
emergencies of all kinds, such as bomb threats, earthquakes,<br />
explosions, labor disputes and oil spills. Issues such as risk analysis,<br />
standards, counter-measures and emergency public relations will be<br />
studied, along with case histories.<br />
Prerequisite: ENG 102 or ENG 201<br />
SEC 405 Seminar in Security Problems<br />
3 hours, 3 credits<br />
A professional seminar on major security problems in the private,<br />
public and institutional sectors. Legal liability and its control will be<br />
emphasized. Students will either analyze an existing or plan an<br />
original security program.<br />
Prerequisites: ENG 102 or ENG 201, senior standing, and majoring<br />
in Security Management, or permission of the section instructor<br />

Note: The courses here are open only to SEEK<br />
students.<br />
COMS 102 Basic Communication Skills II<br />
3 hours, 1 credit<br />
This course is designed for entering freshmen who scored between<br />
33-35 on the Reading Assessment Test and for continuing students<br />
who have completed COM 101 and need more instruction in reading<br />
comprehension as well as instruction in how to read critically in order<br />
to comprehend textbooks, editorials and essays. Use of the library<br />
for research will be an integral part of this course.<br />
