TOX 313 Toxicology of Environmental and Industrial<br />

Agents<br />

3 hours, 3 credits<br />

An introduction to the principles of toxicology, distribution,<br />

metabolism and effects of toxic chemicals such as pesticides, metals,<br />

chemical carcinogens, air, water, and soil pollutants, radiation and<br />

industrial solvents. Hazardous waste and consumer products.<br />

Prerequisites: ENG 102 or ENG 201, CHE 201-202<br />

TOX 415 Forensic Pharmacology<br />

9 hours: 3 hours lecture; 6 hours, laboratory; 4 credits<br />

The basic principles of pharmacology of drugs of abuse including<br />

cocaine, marijuana, sedatives, narcotics, stimulants, antidepressants,<br />

as well as chemicals such as alcohol, metals and designer drugs.<br />

Analysis of these chemicals and drugs in a variety of biological<br />

specimens using methods such as thin layer chromatography, gas<br />

chromatography, mass-spectrometry and immunoassays.<br />

TOX 416 Analytical Toxicology<br />

9 hours: 3 hours lecture; 6 hours laboratory; 4 credits<br />

The use of modern analytical chemical methods for the analysis of<br />

toxic substances of clinical and forensic importance in such<br />

physiological substances as blood, urine, stomach contents and organ<br />

tissues.<br />
