PSC 350 Police Labor Relations<br />

3 hours, 3 credits<br />

An in-depth examination of the essentials of police-municipal labor<br />

relations, including the history and structure of police unions, policemunicipal<br />

collective bargaining concepts and problems, relevant<br />

labor law, Public Employees Relations Board Rulings and labor<br />

contract administration in a police setting.<br />

Prerequisites: ENG 102 or ENG 201, and PSC 201<br />

PSC 401 Seminar in Police Problems<br />

3 hours, 3 credits<br />

An analysis of the major police problems from the viewpoints of both<br />

the administrator and the line operations officer.<br />

Prerequisites: ENG 102 or ENG 201, senior standing, and majoring<br />

in Police Studies or <strong>Criminal</strong> <strong>Justice</strong><br />

PSC 405 Organized Crime in America<br />

3 hours, 3 credits<br />

A seminar on the origins, organization, function and control of<br />

organized crime.<br />

Prerequisites: ENG 102 or ENG 201, senior standing, and majoring<br />

in Police Studies or <strong>Criminal</strong> <strong>Justice</strong><br />

PSC 410 Independent Study<br />

(Same course as COR 410, CRJ 410 and LAW 410)<br />

3 hours, 3 credits<br />

A program of reading and reporting planned and carried out under<br />

the guidance of a faculty member. The topic, issue or area of student<br />

interest must concern a problem in criminal justice, constitutional or<br />

criminal law or procedure, corrections including probation and<br />

parole, or law enforcement.<br />

PSC 415 Seminar on Terrorism<br />

3 hours, 3 credits<br />

Historical perspectives and the current terrorist threat and challenge;<br />

major terrorist groups and their strategy, tactics and targets; limits on<br />

military and civil authority; jurisdictional issues; the roles of media,<br />

federal law enforcement and intelligence; anti- and counterterrorist<br />

operations and operational techniques; terrorist crisis command and<br />

control; logistics and support; planning and prevention; future trends and<br />

the role of women in terrorist groups and counterterrorist operations.<br />

in Police Studies or <strong>Criminal</strong> <strong>Justice</strong><br />

A study of American politics — its institutions and processes and the<br />

distribution of political power with an emphasis on how the system<br />

works, who benefits and who does not, and to what extent it is<br />

democratic.<br />

POL 203 Municipal and State Government<br />

3 hours, 3 credits<br />

Functional study of the legislative and administrative process in state<br />

and local government. The increasing importance of administration<br />

and the executive in modern government. The relationship between<br />

administration and the legislative and judicial branches of the<br />

government. The influence of political parties, pressure groups and<br />

public opinion upon legislation and administration.<br />
