LATIN AMERICAN AND LATINA/O STUDIES<br />
HONORS MINOR<br />
Description. The honors minor in Latin American and Latina/o<br />
Studies seeks to encourage and assist all students enrolled to excel in<br />
all their courses by providing research and writing skills workshops<br />
as well as workshops about graduate and law school studies.<br />
Coursework is centered on Latin America and the Caribbean,<br />
Latinas/os in the United States as well as race and ethnicity generally<br />
in the United States.<br />

Requirements:<br />
• Completion of a minimum of 18 credits with a GPA of at least<br />
3.3 (B+) in the Latin American and Latina/o Studies courses<br />
• Participation in and completion of at least one of the research<br />
and writing skills workshops offered by the Department of<br />
Latin American and Latina/o Studies<br />
• Participation in and completion of at least one graduate/law<br />
school career development workshop<br />
• Completion of an honors thesis written under the supervision of<br />
a member of the department faculty. The thesis must be a<br />
minimum of 10 pages, using the APA citation form, and of B+<br />
quality or better<br />
LAW MINOR (Department of Law, Police Science and<br />
<strong>Criminal</strong> <strong>Justice</strong> Administration)<br />
Requirements. To receive a minor in Law, students must complete<br />
18 credits of law courses.<br />

MATHEMATICS MINOR (Department of Mathematics<br />
and Computer Science)<br />
Description. Mathematics provides excellent preparation for<br />
entrance into many quantitative and high-technology careers. Some<br />
of these include the actuarial field, financial analysis and work in<br />
cryptography. The minor will enhance the understanding of<br />
quantitative disciplines such as the social sciences, physics, chemistry<br />
and biology. Strong math skills also increase a student’s ability to<br />
manage life in this increasingly quantitative world.<br />

Requirements: The Mathematics minor consists of a three-course<br />
calculus sequence plus three courses in a specialization chosen from<br />
among Operations Research, Differential Equations and Pure<br />
Mathematics. These courses in the specialization must be at the 300-<br />
level or above.<br />
