Joint Force <strong>Air</strong><br />
Component Comm<strong>and</strong>er<br />
The Service component comm<strong>and</strong>ers are responsible for<br />
making available to the JFACC those counterair<br />
forces/capabilities not required for their primary roles <strong>and</strong><br />
tasks per the apportionment guidance by the JFC.<br />
Functional component comm<strong>and</strong>s serve to ease the burden<br />
on the theater <strong>and</strong> joint task force staffs, free the JFC to<br />
focus more on strategic aspects of the campaign, <strong>and</strong><br />
provide individual air, l<strong>and</strong>, maritime, <strong>and</strong> special<br />
operations forces (SOF) headquarters for coordination with<br />
the other components.<br />
The JFC will typically designate responsibility for joint air<br />
operations to a JFACC. Although not a joint air operation,<br />
but a joint operation, counterair normally is an assigned<br />
responsibility of the JFACC. Some responsibilities of the<br />
JFACC relating to joint counterair operations include the<br />
following:<br />
• Develop, coordinate, <strong>and</strong> integrate joint counterair<br />
planning with operations of other components for JFC<br />
approval<br />
• Provide information operations strategies to neutralize<br />
enemy air <strong>and</strong> missile threats<br />
• Provide centralized direction for allocating <strong>and</strong> tasking<br />
joint counterair capabilities <strong>and</strong> forces made available by<br />
the JFC<br />
• Perform the duties of the AADC when directed by the<br />
JFC<br />
• Perform the duties of the ACA when directed by the<br />
JFC<br />
Area <strong>Air</strong> <strong>Defense</strong><br />
Comm<strong>and</strong>er<br />
The AADC normally is the component comm<strong>and</strong>er with<br />
the preponderance of AMD capability <strong>and</strong> the C2 <strong>and</strong><br />
intelligence capability to plan, coordinate, <strong>and</strong> execute<br />
integrated AMD operations, including real-time battle<br />
