defense capability <strong>and</strong> the required comm<strong>and</strong>, control, <strong>and</strong> communications capabilities<br />

who is assigned by the joint force comm<strong>and</strong>er to plan <strong>and</strong> execute integrated air defense<br />

ascent phase. That portion of the flight of a ballistic missile or space vehicle that begins<br />

autonomous operation. In air defense, the mode of operation assumed by a unit after it has<br />

lost all communications with higher echelons forcing the unit comm<strong>and</strong>er to assume full<br />

ballistic missile. Any missile which does not rely upon aerodynamic surfaces to produce lift<br />

battle management. The management of activities within the operational environment<br />

based on the comm<strong>and</strong>s, direction, <strong>and</strong> guidance given by appropriate authority. Also<br />
