ground alert. That status in which aircraft on the ground/deck are fully serviced <strong>and</strong> armed,<br />

with combat crews in readiness to take off within a specified period of time after receipt<br />

ground-based interceptor. A fixed-based, surface-to-air missile for defense against longrange<br />

ballistic missiles using an exo-atmospheric hit-to-kill interception of the targeted<br />

ground-based midcourse defense. A surface-to-air ballistic missile defense system for<br />

exo-atmospheric midcourse phase interception of long-range ballistic missiles using the<br />

ground-based interceptors. Also called GMD. (Approved for inclusion in <strong>JP</strong> 1-02.)<br />

ground liaison officer. None. (Approved for removal from <strong>JP</strong> 1-02.)<br />

guided missile. An unmanned vehicle moving above the surface of the Earth whose<br />

trajectory or flight path is capable of being altered by an external or internal mechanism.<br />
