• The instrumented sectionsAn instrumented section is madeup of several monitoring units(see Figure 10.3.11). Thisdistribution enables monitoringparticularly of arch and slabdeformations, and ensures thatthe filling concrete has only aslight impact on the behaviour ofthe compressed strength ring. Theredundancy of the monitoringzones on the left and right sidesmake it possible to quantify anydissymmetry in the behaviour ofthe structure. Also, in the eventof symmetrical alteration, thissystem offers redundantmeasurements. In the access drift, theinstrumented sections areparticularly worthwhile in thatFigure 10.3.11 Composition of an instrumented section for a Bcontrol modulethey provide information regarding the state of the rock and the lining before, during and after groovesare made and the clay core is put in place. Each monitoring unit relates to the monitoring (i) of the atmosphere in the cell (ii) of the cell lining(iii) of the geological formation in the near field environment of the structure. All the sensors groupedin this type of unit are illustrated in Figure 10.3.12.Figure 10.3.12Monitoring unit in a B control cellDOSSIER 2005 ARGILE -ARCHITECTURE AND MANAGEMENT OF A GEOLOGICAL DISPOSAL SYSTEM404/495
