OHM RemediationServices Corp. HEALTH AND SAFETY PLAN3.2 PHYSICAL HAZARDSTo minimize physical hazards, OHM has developed st<strong>and</strong>ard safety protocols which will befollowed at all times. These protocols are contained in the Health <strong>and</strong> Safety ProceduresManual currently on file with LANTDIV. Failure to follow safety protocols will result inexpulsion of an employee from the <strong>site</strong> <strong>and</strong> appropriate disciplinary actions.The SS <strong>and</strong> SSO will observe the general <strong>work</strong> practices of each crew member <strong>and</strong> equipmentoperator, <strong>and</strong> en<strong>for</strong>ce safe procedures to minimize physical hazards. Hard hats, safety glasses,<strong>and</strong> steel-toe safety boots are required in all areas of the <strong>site</strong>. Site-specific hazards <strong>and</strong> allnecessary precautions will be discussed at the daily safety meetings. The Health <strong>and</strong> SafetyProcedures Manual <strong>for</strong> LANTDIV will be maintained at the project <strong>site</strong> trailer as a referencedocument.The physical hazards posed by <strong>plan</strong>ned LANTDIV Camp Lejeune project activities includesafety hazards, heat stress, <strong>and</strong> noise. There are numerous physical/safety hazards associatedwith this project which, if not identified <strong>and</strong> addressed, could present operational problems aswell as accidents <strong>and</strong> personal injury to the <strong>work</strong> <strong>for</strong>ce. In order to minimize physical hazards,OHM has developed a Health <strong>and</strong> Safety Procedures Manual which outlines the minimumhealth <strong>and</strong> safety requirements <strong>for</strong> LANTDIV Camp Lejeune project <strong>site</strong>s to be followed at alItimes. Failure to follow safety protocols or continued negligence of these policies wiIl result inexpulsion of a crew member from the <strong>site</strong> as well as possible termination of employmentThe OHM SOPS will be on <strong>site</strong> located in the project trailer.Safety HazardsAll OHM Team personnel will become familiar with the field activities which will be conductedat the <strong>site</strong>. All OHM personnel are trained to <strong>work</strong> safely under various field conditions. Inaddition, the PS will observe the general <strong>work</strong> practices of each crew member <strong>and</strong> equipmentoperator, <strong>and</strong> en<strong>for</strong>ce safe procedures to minimize safety hazards. Procedures from the OHMHealth <strong>and</strong> Safety Procedures Manual that specifically apply to <strong>plan</strong>ned project activities willbe incorporated into this <strong>plan</strong> by reference. The following sections are typical safety hazardsthat may occur at USACE Fort SilI project <strong>site</strong>s along with relevant hazard control procedures.1. Heavv <strong>and</strong> Bulkv Loads - Intelligent thought shall be exercised be<strong>for</strong>e heavy <strong>and</strong>bulky loads are lifted or h<strong>and</strong>led manually by personnel. Mechanical equipment suchas <strong>for</strong>k-lifts, wheel barrows, h<strong>and</strong>-trucks, loaders, <strong>and</strong> cranes shall be utilized whenpossible <strong>and</strong> needed.
