Spiders, snake bites, or other wildanimal bites will be reported immediately to the Site Safety Officer so that emergencymedical treatment may be sought immediately. Do not attempt to capture or restrainany animal, however, a physical description of the snake, spider, or other wildanimal will be helpful to the attending physician when administering treatment.3.3.4 Project Hazard CommunicationThe purpose of hazard communication (Employee Right-to-Know) is to ensure that the hazardsof all chemicals located at this field project site are transmitted (communicated) according to 29CPR 1926.59 to all OHM personnel and OHM subcontractors. OHM’s Corporate HazardCommunication Program is included in Appendix B for reference. Hazard communication willinclude the following:. Container LabelingOHM personnel will ensure that all drums and containers are labeled according tocontents. These drums and containers will include those from manufacturers andthose produced on site by operations. All incoming and outgoing labels shall bechecked for identity, hazard warning, and name and address of responsible party.. Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDSs)There will be an MSDS located on site for each hazardous chemical known to beused on site. All MSDSs will be located in Appendix C of the SHSP. The sitesafety plan can be found in the project office trailer.. Employee Information and TrainingTraining employees on chemical hazards is accomplished through on ongoingcorporate training program. Additionally, chemical hazards are communicated toemployees through daily safety meetings held at OHM field projects and by an initialsite orientation program.At a minimum, OHM and related subcontractor employees will be instructed on the following:. Chemicals and their hazards in the work area. How to prevent exposure to these hazardous chemicals. How to read and interpret labels and MSDSs for hazardous substances found onOHM sites. Emergency spill procedures. Proper storage and labelingBefore any new hazardous chemical is introduced on site, each OHM and related subcontractoremployee will be given information in the same manner as during the safety class. The sitesupervisor will be responsible for seeing that the MSDS on the new chemical is available forreview by on site personnel. The information pertinent to the chemical hazards will becommunicated to project personnel.Morning safety meetings will be held and the hazardous materials used on site will bediscussed. Attendance is mandatory for all on site employees. Refer to Appendix C of the sitesafety plan to find a list of hazardous chemicals anticipated to be brought to the site and thecorresponding MSDSs for these chemicals.3.3.5 NoiseHearing protection is required for workers operating or working near heavy equipment, wherethe noise level is greater than 85 dbA (Time Weighted Average) as well as personnel workingaround heavy equipment.
