It is highly recommended that all personnelentering into an area with poison ivy wear a minimum of a tyvek coverall, to avoidskin contact.The majority of skin reactions followingnature <strong>and</strong> characterized by:contact with offending <strong>plan</strong>ts are allergic in. General symptoms of headache <strong>and</strong> fever. Itching. Redness. A rashSome of the most common <strong>and</strong> most severe allergic reactions result from contact with<strong>plan</strong>ts of the poison ivy group, including poison oak <strong>and</strong> poison sumac. Such <strong>plan</strong>tsproduce severe rash characterized by redness, blisters, swelling, <strong>and</strong> intense burning<strong>and</strong> itching. The victim may develop a high fever <strong>and</strong> feel very ill. Ordinarily, therash begins within a few hours after exposure, but may be delayed 24 to 48 hours.. .rstmguishing Features of Poison Ivv Grw PlantsThe most distinctive features of poison ivy <strong>and</strong> poison oak are their leaves, which arecomposed of three leaflets each. Both <strong>plan</strong>ts have greenish-white flowers <strong>and</strong> berriesthat grow in clusters.First Aida. Remove contaminated clothing; wash all exposed areas thoroughly with soap<strong>and</strong> water, followed by rubbing alcohol.b. Apply calamine or other soothing lotion if rash is mild.C. Seek medical advice if a severe reaction occurs, or if there is a known historyof previous sensitivity.. TicksHeavily vegetated areas of a <strong>site</strong> may have ticks.
