OHM RemediationServices Corp. SAMPLING AND ANALYSIS PLANSamples will be logged in and screened upon arrival at the on-site laboratory. Manufacturer’sinstructions will be followed for each kit. Detection and quantitation limits, accuracy, andprecision studies will also be performed for each kit. Results will be recorded in the laboratorynotebook and submitted in the pilot study report Time required for testing will be carefullymonitored and recorded.Samples will be analyzed at an off-site laboratory for the parameters listed in Appendix A.Laboratory services will be procured on a competitive bid basis. Results from both on-site and off-site laboratories will be reviewed, summarized and evaluatedby the Regional Senior Project Chemist and Regional Chemical QA/QC Coordinator. Eachscreening method and kit will be evaluated based on criteria such as the correlation to standardmethod results, sensitivity, selectivity, possible matrix interferences, performance, time andcost. Recommendations will be made as to the use and validity of each screening technique. Results from the off-site laboratory will also be evaluated by the Regional Transportation andDisposal Coordinator for disposal options.3.1.1 Segregation of Excavated SoilsAs excavation is being performed and each truck loaded with approximately 17 cubic yards ofsoil, a composite sample consisting of 5 grabs will be collected. These 5 grab samples will becollected as the truck is being loaded, using a clean SS spoon. The grab samples will becollected in a clean SS bowl or bucket and homogenized. A composite sample will beprepared and placed into the appropriate containers as listed in Appendix A, Table A-l.Sampling equipment will be thoroughly cleaned between samples using decontaminationprocedures described in section 3.5. Field sampling personnel will wear disposable glovesduring sampling and will change gloves between truckloads to minimize the potential forcross-contamination.The sample will be screened using a TPH immunoassay field-screening kit. If TPH is greaterthan 100 mg/lcg, the truckload of soil will be taken to a lined holding area designated as“contaminated”. If TPH is less than 100 m@kg, the truckload of soil will be taken to a linedholding area designated as “clean”.3.1.2 Characterization of the “Contaminated” Soil PilesOne composite sample of all “contaminated ” soil piles will be collected and sent to the off-sitelaboratory for the analyses listed in Appendix A, Table A- 1. The composite sample will beprepared by collecting 6 random grab samples from the surface, middle and center of all thesoil piles using a clean SS spoon. The grabs are then collected into a clean SS bowl or bucketOHM Project 16487SAP Sampling and Analysis Ran May 1995Information herein is pmprietary and confidential and to be used or released to others only with explicit writtea permission of OHM RemcdLtionService4 Colp.3-2
