At the daily safety meeting, personnelare instructed in proper lifting techniques <strong>and</strong> reminded not to lift heavy itemswithout assistance.16. JWinp ObjecQ - OHM believes that the dismantlement process as well as other<strong>remediation</strong> processes can be accomplished without any object, regardless of size,free falling to the ground. All support structures will be slowly lowered to theground using a grapple <strong>and</strong>/or skip bucket. No personnel shall <strong>work</strong> under thisequipment at any time. Also, the PSO will ensure that an adequate area is clear ofpersonnel while the equipment is in operation.17. Heavy EauiDment <strong>and</strong> Vehicle Traffic - The use of heavy equipment <strong>for</strong> debrisremoval, excavation, <strong>and</strong> lifting presents the greatest potential <strong>for</strong> injury topersonnel. In order to minimize these hazards, designated routes will be established<strong>for</strong> mobilization through the facility, <strong>and</strong> specific traffic patterns will be established.All trucks will have spotters <strong>for</strong> backing maneuvers. Those crew members directlyinvolved with spotting <strong>for</strong> the operator will be the only personnel allowed in thevicinity of the heavy equipment. All others will remain a safe distance away fromthese operations.Personnel needing to approach heavy equipment while operating will observe thefollowing protocols:1. Make eye contact with the operator (<strong>and</strong> spotter)2. Signal the operator to cease heavy equipment activity3. Approach the equipment <strong>and</strong> in<strong>for</strong>m the operator of intentionsOHM will follow all traffic rules. Company vehicles will yield to all bikes,pedestrians, <strong>and</strong> railroad crossings. All vehicles must come to a complete stop at allrailroad crossings. All vehicles must be operated in a safe <strong>and</strong> legal manner. Motorvehicles that are defective or not operating properly must be reported immediately.Seats beats must be worn while driving. Personnel shall drive at posted speed limitsor at speeds consistent with prevailing road, traffic, or weather conditions.18. Confined Space Entry - No confined spaced are anticipated.19. Equinment <strong>and</strong> H<strong>and</strong> Tools - All h<strong>and</strong> tools <strong>and</strong> power tools shall be in good repair<strong>and</strong> will be used only <strong>for</strong> the task <strong>for</strong> which they were designed. All damaged toolswill be tagged “Out of Service.” All tools will be kept clean. Sharp tools shall not becarried in pockets.
