7.0 PERFORMANCE AND SYSTEM AUDITSAudit is defined as systematic check to determine the quality of operation of field <strong>and</strong>laboratory activities. It is comprised of the following:llPer<strong>for</strong>mance auditSystem auditsThese include a detailed review of each operating component of the net<strong>work</strong> Auditing willultimately assist in determining if each element within a system is functioning appropriately perthe QA program requirements.7.1 Field Per<strong>for</strong>mance AuditsField per<strong>for</strong>mance audits are per<strong>for</strong>med on an ongoing basis during the project as field data isgenerated, reduced, <strong>and</strong> analyzed. All numerical analyses, including manual calculations aredocumented. All records of numerical <strong>analysis</strong> are legible, of reproduction quality, <strong>and</strong>supporting to complete permit logical reconstruction by a qualified individual other than theoriginator.Other indicators of the level of field per<strong>for</strong>mance are the analytical results of the blank,duplicate, <strong>and</strong> replicate samples. Each blank <strong>analysis</strong> is an indirect audit of effectiveness ofmeasures taken in the field to ensure sample integrity. The results of the field duplicate <strong>and</strong>replicate <strong>analysis</strong> is an indirect audit of the ability of each field team to collect representativesample portions of each matrix type.7.2 Field System AuditsSystem audits of <strong>site</strong> activities are accomplished by an inspection of all field activities by theProject QC Officer. This audit is composed of comparisons between current field practices<strong>and</strong> st<strong>and</strong>ard procedures. The following is a list of criteria to be used in the evaluation of fieldactivities:.
