OHM RemediationServices Corp. HEALTH AND SAFETY PLANBack injury prevention must be given high priority on all project <strong>site</strong>s. If you thinkthe load you are about to lift is too heavy or bulky, it probably is! Get help or utilizemechanical equipment. Employees will make certain the load can be safely h<strong>and</strong>ledby considering the size, weight, <strong>and</strong> shape of the load. No loads over 60 poundswill be lifted. Proper lifting techniques will be utilized: feet will be shoulder widthapart, one foot will be placed along side the load, bend at knees, maintain arch inback, keep the load close to the body, lift with legs not the back.2.3.4.Exolosion Hazard - Plammable materials in confined spaces (i.e., excavation areas)can produce an explosive atmosphere which can be triggered by a spark or otherenergy source. To prevent this type of accident, the concentration of flammablematerial in air will be carefully monitored, <strong>and</strong> confined space entry procedures willbe followed. See Section 8.2 <strong>for</strong> air monitoring <strong>and</strong> Section 4.2.1 <strong>for</strong> safety hazard.Hoisting Accidents - Employees can have suspended loads dropped on them, becaught behind a load <strong>and</strong> a stationary object, or be crushed or struck by thecounterweight. All hoisting will be done by qualified personnel only after safetychecks are made of chokes <strong>and</strong> cables. In addition, no hoisting will take placewithout a designated signal man present.Heavv Eauioment Oneration <strong>and</strong> Insnection - Heavy construction equipmentoperators present construction safety hazards to operating <strong>and</strong> ground personnel.OHM has safe operating procedures (SOP) <strong>for</strong> the use of heavy constructionequipment.
