Workers willbe encouraged to increase consumption of water <strong>and</strong> electrolyte-containing beverages (eg,Gatorade).The followingis a summary of the signs <strong>and</strong> symptoms of heat stress disorders.. Heat rash - characteristic rash which may develop on the &in in areas which may bechapped by clothing. Frequent clothing changes help to prevent chapping fromcontact with wet clothes.. Heat cramps - caused by heavy sweating <strong>and</strong> inadequate electrolyte replacement.Provide frequent breaks with fluid replacement. Cramps are usually relieved whenvictim is moved to a cool resting place <strong>and</strong> provided fluids every 15 minutes <strong>for</strong>approximately 1 hour. Symptoms include:Muscle spasmsPain in the h<strong>and</strong>s, feet, abdomen. Heat exhaustion - caused by increased stress of various body organs includinginadequate blood circulation due to cardiovascular insufficiency or dehydration.Immediately remove the victim from the hot environment <strong>and</strong> provide rest while lyingthe victim down with feet elevated, <strong>and</strong> care <strong>for</strong> shock.
