That the CDHO should establish an interprofessional st<strong>and</strong>ardscommittee to develop st<strong>and</strong>ards of practice for the prescribing,dispensing, selling <strong>and</strong> compounding of drugs designated inregulations under the Dental Hygiene Act, 1991.Implementation ProposalsTo implement HPRAC’s recommendations, the following changes to statutes<strong>and</strong> regulations are proposed:1. That the Dental Hygiene Act, 1991 be amended by adding the followingsections:Authorized acts4.3 Prescribing, dispensing, selling or compounding a drug that themember may prescribe, dispense, sell or compound under theregulations.Additional requirements for authorized acts5(2.1) A member shall perform a procedure under the authority ofparagraph 3 of section 4 in accordance with any requirementsprescribed in the regulations made under this Act or under theRegulated <strong>Health</strong> <strong>Professions</strong> Act, 1991.Individual scope of practice for dental hygienists5(4) A member is responsible for identifying the limits of his or hereducational preparation <strong>and</strong> competencies, <strong>and</strong> for resolvingsituations beyond his or her expertise by consulting with orreferring patients to other health care professionals.HPRAC Critical Links January 2009
