422Chapter 18 – Summary of Proposals for Implementation<strong>and</strong> to provide to the Minister reports containing prescribedinformation respecting the prescribing, dispensing, selling orcompounding of drugs;(b) prescribing requirements for performing scaling teeth <strong>and</strong> rootplaning, including curetting surrounding tissue, which requirementsmay include the educational <strong>and</strong> experiential qualifications thatmust be obtained in order for a member to undertake thoseprocedures on the member’s own initiative; <strong>and</strong>(c) prescribing contraindications to a member performing orcontinuing to perform on the member’s own initiative theprocedures of scaling teeth <strong>and</strong> root planing, including curettingsurrounding tissue.4. That Ontario Regulation 218/94 under the Dental Hygiene Act, 1991(General) be amended by adding the following sections:12.1(k.1) any drug prescribed, dispensed, sold or compounded forthe client.39.(a) For the purposes of this section, “Drug List” has the meaninggiven to it in the Regulated <strong>Health</strong> <strong>Professions</strong> Act, 1991.(b) A member may prescribe, dispense, sell or compound thefollowing classes of drugs:i. Anti-infectives-– miscellaneousii.Miscellaneous therapeutic agents – cariostatic agents.(c) A member may only prescribe, dispense, sell, compound oruse those drugs within the classes designated in subsection39(b) that are listed in the Drug List <strong>and</strong> must prescribe,dispense, sell, compound or use those listed drugs in accordancewith the terms, limitations <strong>and</strong> conditions contained in the DrugList.40. (1) It is a term, condition <strong>and</strong> limitation of a certificate ofregistration of any class that the member who performs a procedureunder the authority of paragraph 3 of section 4 of the Act must: (a)provide satisfactory evidence of successful completion of a programthat meets approved criteria; <strong>and</strong> (b) ensure the procedureperformed does not exceed the level of training completed.(2) It is a term, condition <strong>and</strong> limitation of a certificate ofregistration of any class that the member who performs a procedureunder the authority of paragraph 3 of section 4 of the Act mustensure the procedure is performed in accordance with anyst<strong>and</strong>ards of practice established <strong>and</strong> published by the College fromtime to time.HPRAC Critical Links January 2009
