307Chapter 12 – Profession of Nursing(b) A member may prescribe the following classes of drugs underthe authority of paragraph 3 of section 5.1:1. antihistamine drugs,2. anti-infective agents,3. autonomic drugs,4. blood formation, coagulation <strong>and</strong> thrombosis agents –antithrombotic drugs,5. cardiovascular drugs,6. CNS agents – analgesics <strong>and</strong> antipyretics – NSAIDs,anticonvulsants, psychotherapeutic agents, antimigraineagents, miscellaneous,7. electrolytic, caloric <strong>and</strong> water balance,8. enzymes,9. respiratory tract agents,10. eye, ear, nose <strong>and</strong> throat preparations – anti-infectives,anti-inflammatory agents,11. gastrointestinal drugs,12. hormones <strong>and</strong> synthetic substitutes – adrenals,contraceptives, estrogens, antidiabetic agents,progestins, thyroid <strong>and</strong> antithyroid agents,13. local anaesthetics,14. serums, toxoids <strong>and</strong> vaccines,15. skin <strong>and</strong> mucous membrane agents,16. vitamins,17. bone resorption inhibitors, <strong>and</strong>18. emergency medications.(c) A member may only prescribe those drugs within the classesdesignated in subsection 16(b) that are listed in the Drug List<strong>and</strong> must prescribe or use those listed drugs in accordance withthe terms, limitations <strong>and</strong> conditions contained in the Drug List.(d) A member may prescribe or administer any drug or substancethat may lawfully be purchased or acquired without aprescription.8. That section 19 of PART III (Controlled Acts) <strong>and</strong> Schedules 2 <strong>and</strong> 3 ofOntario Regulation 275/94 under the Nursing Act, 1991 (General) berepealed.9. That Ontario Regulation 275/94 under the Nursing Act, 1991 (General) beamended by adding the following sections:HPRAC Critical Links January 2009
