That section 4 of the Nursing Act, 1991 be amended by adding thefollowing section:Authorized Acts4. In the course of engaging in the practice of nursing, a member isauthorized, subject to the terms, conditions <strong>and</strong> limitationsimposed on his or her certificate of registration, to perform thefollowing:4. Dispensing a drug that has been prescribed by a member of aCollege as defined in the Regulated <strong>Health</strong> <strong>Professions</strong> Act,1991 who has the authority to make the prescription.2. That section 5 of the Nursing Act, 1991 be repealed <strong>and</strong> the followingsubstituted:Additional requirements for authorized acts5. (1) A member shall not perform a procedure under the authorityof paragraph 1, 2, 3 or 4 of section 4 unless,(a) the performance of the procedure by the member is permittedby the regulations <strong>and</strong> the member performs the procedure inaccordance with the regulations; or(b) the procedure is ordered by a person who is authorized to dothe procedure by section 5.1 of this Act or by the Chiropody Act,1991, the Dentistry Act, 1991, the Medicine Act, 1991 or theMidwifery Act, 1991.HPRAC Critical Links January 2009
