PW-3: Water Monitoring & Leak Detection<br />

Intent To encourage the provision of metering facilities that allow the water consumption of<br />

the building to be recorded and monitored to allow future improvement and<br />

understanding of the use of water in buildings.<br />

2 Credit Points: Demonstrate that easily accessible and clearly labeled water meters<br />

are provided and capable of monitoring the water consumption of, at a minimum, the<br />

following major uses (where present):<br />

� Bathroom/Toilet Facilities;<br />

� Kitchen/Catering Facilities;<br />

� Swimming Pools (indoor); and<br />

� Ablution Facilities.<br />

Leak Detection<br />

2 Credit Points: Demonstrate that a leak detection system has been installed that<br />

covers all main water distribution pipes within the project.<br />

Monitoring<br />

� Design drawings showing locations of monitoring equipment;<br />

� Narrative describing monitoring strategy relating to all major uses; and<br />

� Extracts from specifications and MEP drawings clearly indicating the type, extent<br />

and locations of all metering, and central monitoring system<br />

Leak Detection<br />

� Design drawings and narrative showing the location of all equipment and describing<br />

the leak detection strategy. The narrative must address how the system deals with<br />

different leakage rates, the alarm mechanism, and how false alarms are avoided;<br />

and<br />

� Extracts from specifications of leak detection systems.<br />
