Intent To determine the most effective solution to reducing a building’s cooling demand by
incorporating passive design strategies as a priority.

GENERAL
Demonstrate that passive design measures have been incorporated into the building
design to reduce the external heat gain compared with the baseline building.
Reductions in the annual external heat gain must be analysed and presented according
to the procedure outlined within the Calculations and Methodology section.
� 1-5 Credit Points: Points are awarded based on reductions in the annual external heat
gain of the proposed building compared with the baseline as follows:

An additional point is awarded for the use of high solar reflective roofing materials in
order to help reduce the building external heat gain as well as the impact on the local
microclimate.

design measures integrated into the building design;
