NS-R3: Natural <strong>System</strong>s Design & Management Strategy<br />

Intent To minimize demand for resources, promote soil protection and enhancement and<br />

ensure the long term survival and management of landscaped/habitat areas.<br />

GENERAL<br />

Demonstrate that a Natural <strong>System</strong>s Design and Management Strategy has been<br />

prepared that ensure the long term survival and management of the landscape and<br />

habitat areas within the site and promotes:<br />

� soil protection and enhancement;<br />

� low maintenance requirements; and<br />

� low demand for resources.<br />

The Natural <strong>System</strong>s Design and Management Strategy must cover all landscape areas<br />

including the management of:<br />

� protected, mitigated or compensated assets (as identified under NS-R2);<br />

� areas of ecological enhancement (as identified under NS-3); and<br />

� habitat creation and restoration areas (as identified under NS-4).<br />

The Natural <strong>System</strong> Design and Management Strategy must be prepared by a suitably<br />

qualified professional.<br />

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT/CLARIFICATIONS<br />

Sites that demonstrate no existing or proposed landscaping comply with the<br />

requirements.<br />

This is a requirement. There are no Credit Points awarded.<br />

� Natural <strong>System</strong>s Design and Management Strategy that includes:<br />

� Plans and drawings illustrating layout and design of landscaped and habitat<br />

areas;<br />

� Details of soft and hard landscaped areas;<br />

� Details and justification of plant selection (ensuring that only native and<br />

adaptive drought and saline tolerant species are specified for habitat areas);<br />

� Details of soil strategy for testing, protection, enhancement and maintenance;<br />

� Irrigation strategy;<br />

� Details of landscape maintenance procedures including fertilizer, herbicide and<br />

pesticide application;<br />

� Details of specific establishment, maintenance and protection requirements for<br />

sensitive areas; and<br />

� Details of monitoring requirements.<br />

� Details of the appointed suitably qualified environmental consultant’s professional<br />

status, if different to the consultant details provided in NS-R1.<br />

� Updated Natural <strong>System</strong>s Design and Management Strategy including:<br />

� Reporting of any landscape/ habitat design alterations or procedures;<br />

� Report on any failures and rectification work undertaken; and<br />

� Confirmation of the appointment of a management and maintenance<br />
