RE-6: Renewable Energy<br />

Intent To reward projects for the use of renewable technologies, therefore reducing the<br />

carbon emissions associated with building operation and the reliance on fossil fuel<br />

based power generation.<br />

GENERAL<br />

Demonstrate that a percentage of the developments total energy demand is supplied<br />

through renewable energy.<br />

Onsite <strong>System</strong>s:<br />

� Demonstrate that an onsite renewable energy feasibility study has been undertaken,<br />

and that one or more appropriate technologies have been selected as a result of the<br />

study; and<br />

� 1-8 Credit Points: Demonstrate that a percentage of the proposed buildings energy<br />

consumption is supplied through onsite renewable energy. Points are awarded as<br />

follows:<br />

Offsite <strong>System</strong>s:<br />

� 1 Credit Point: Demonstrate that a minimum of 20% of the project’s non-renewable<br />

and/or certified Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs), and that contracts are signed<br />

for a minimum of 2 years.<br />

Demonstrate that 20% of the project’s non-renewable energy use<br />

is supplied by offsite renewable energy.<br />

Onsite <strong>System</strong>s:<br />

� Renewable energy feasibility study covering each of the technologies required as<br />

well as recommendations on the preferred technology/technologies; and<br />

� Calculations of the annual energy generation capability of each proposed<br />

renewable energy technology, both in terms of annual energy produced as well as a<br />
