The Nati<strong>on</strong>wide M<strong>on</strong>itoring Programme for Agricultural Catchments<br />
(LOOP) is carried out in five well-defined run-off catchment areas in<br />
agricultural regi<strong>on</strong>s where farming practice is known. Am<strong>on</strong>g o<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>r<br />
things, groundwater near <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> surface is m<strong>on</strong>itored, so it is possible to<br />
relate leached substances to <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> use of <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> l<strong>and</strong>. However, <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>re are <strong>on</strong>ly<br />

The raw water m<strong>on</strong>itoring system includes m<strong>on</strong>itoring <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> water <str<strong>on</strong>g>from</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />
water companies’ extracti<strong>on</strong> wells. In many cases, <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> interval in <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />
wells <str<strong>on</strong>g>from</str<strong>on</strong>g> which water is extracted is of c<strong>on</strong>siderable length, <strong>and</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />
water can be extracted <str<strong>on</strong>g>from</str<strong>on</strong>g> several separate saturated sediments. A<br />
