The decision to erect the memorial was taken by theHomosexual Group of the Dutch Pacifist Socialist Party in May 1979.Alongside the biggest organisation of homosexual women and men, theCOC and the lesbian group 7152, homosexual groups from all political parties(from left to right) are represented in the action committee.The memorial of pink natural stone is composed of three triangles. Onerises above the quay wall of the canal. There is also a platform and a commemorativetriangle at street level. Together, all the angles form a large trianglewhose sides measure 36 metres.The memorial commemorates all the women and men who wereoppressed and persecuted for being homosexuals.
